Gov. Campbell is making a magnificent

not, he was shown himself to be the most
courageous democratic leader and the best
stump-speaker in the west.
Speaking at the centre of the glass and
pottery industries, and again In the min
ing Iron region, to great crowds of so-
called "protected" workingnien, Gov
Campbell asked them to their faces how
many had received an increase of wages
since the Increase of from 25 to jo percent
in the tariff on the products of their labor.
The answer in each case was: "Nary
lone!"
Gov, Campbell boldly challenged Major
Mckinley to name a single protected in
dustry In the state of Ohio wherein the
wages have been increased by the opera
tion of hit tariff law. The governor made
the fair proposition to his opponent to "give
him the votes of all the men whose wages
have been Increased by the bill if he will
give me the votes of all the men whose
wages haven't been increased by it," and
'on that basis," he declared, "I'll carry
unto by 750,000 majority."
The tariff was raised on the pretense of
paying higher wages to American work-
ingmen. It has proved a fraud. Monop
oly takes all the increased profits, and la
bor can bite Its thumb.

Linn county business council convened
in regular session, liro J llrynnt, presi
dent, in the chair. The loll being called
quorum was lotinu present.
The council proceeded with the usual
routine of business.
The minutes of the previous meeting
wer react nv the pec. and stood nu-
pruveu.
In tlio ndsence of Bro Miller, the
agent of the council, there was no re
port from him in regard to the financial
proceedings of the Patrons ot Husbandry
in me juriauiciiou 01 nils council.
Tho patrons in this part of Benton
county neked the council for a sub-agent
to act in concert with the general airent
as iiwasrAinerilimcult for tlienj to go
to Albany to do their trading Their
request was granted with the consent of
Hro Miller, our agent.
Before adiourninir for dinner Prof
trench, of the Aerieulttiral college, re
quested the council as nlody to visit the
cunt-go uuiiuings, inrni, etc.
Considerable talk was indulged in In
different members in explanation of the
workings of the Linn county business
council.

Immediately after lunch, headed hv
Profs French and Letcher, the council
a ooay started lor the Agricultural col
lege. On arriving at the college all were
shown through the different rooms, and
the manner of conducting said institution

The greenhouse was irone through
a'so the dormitory, barn, silo building,
etc, ana meir iniierent uses was ex
plained in a hurried manner. As there
were a good many persons in attendance
who had never been at the college there
was quite an interest taken by the visit
ors in examining the buildings, stock,
flowers, etc., and none will regret the
line spent. My only comnlaint was
that our time was too short to make anv
thing like a thorough examination.
After two hours thus snent. we returned
to the council hall and resumed business.
The next meeting of the council will
be held with Orand Frairie Grange, No
10, Linn county, on the first Saturday in
Nov., 1891.
A vote of thanks waa tendered bv the
council to Corvallis grange for the use of
their hall ; to the sisters for the repast
furnished, and to the Profs of the collpie
for the interest shown the council.
All seemed to have enioved them
selves in the (lav's work done. N'n ntlipr

the council, on motion adjourned.
