Never submitted a proposition to the city in any form until today (Thursday), l)r Hill was in town ami expressed tlio belief to some of the citizens that the road could be secured (ere, and said that the company was Bow ready to make a proposition to Leb anon. Mayor Miller lias accordingly called a mass meeting for Saturday night, when a discussion of the matter will be bad, representatives of the company to be present. The proposition that will be made, as we are informed, will be that if Lebanon will secure right of way to the city and right on streets to the depot, thence on streets to the paper Dill, the company will proceed to build to Lebanon, and, for the present under taking to go no further. With an ad ditional number of trains on the S, which Mr Hill has been assured n ill be put on, when the motor line is built the people would have an excellent service irom Albany, probably as good as if the line was built there. ;; More Krrb Gold. Mr. Lewis, the freighter from Gates ville to the Santiam mines, arrived In Albany last night from the mines, and reported a find of free gold ore In the lower tunnel, now in about 160 ieet, and 75 feet from the surface. This was entirely unexpected so early, free gold ore not being looked for In the tunnel until It was In twice as far. It makes the prospects fir ahead of the anticipations of the members of the Albany Mining & . Alining 1,0. the upper tunnel is now in 250 feet and a good lot of ore i6 constantly being secured. A man representing a .large amount of mining capital is now in the mines and ii ready at any time to bond tre mine so well isjhe pleased with, the outlook, but the owners will not bond or ell it. The prospects are good, and the effort used in developing it has been too great too part with anything without big results. A Fine TniKO. Hon L II Msntanye and D M Hastings of this city have pur chased the right for the Cleveland hub tor Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Nevada. In the way of a hub this surpasses any thing else ever manufactured, so far as the iJkmockat knows. It meets a long frit want, and the reason it does is because it is absolutely dust and wafer proof, when placed on a true spindle. The hub can be placed on any wheel and spindle, 110 mat ter what the make or kind of wagon, from a dog cart or buggy to a democrat or lum ber wagon. So complete is the arranga ment that after once oiling; the spindles the wagon will run 600 miles without re- oiung, a claim made, tnit will be easily believed on examining the hub. The gentlemen have a good thing, and will proceed at once to sell county rights in ine states named. As lMr.REvriNG Fact. A bran new sidewalk is going down in front of the Democrat office. The Santlam Lumber Co. from whose yard the lumber came, in order to give Albany some creditable oldewalks, are selling dressed lumber at t he price of rough lumber. A fact that should be generally appreciated, as it will give the city a much better class of side walks. Three Darkeys. Three dirty little darkeys, as bright aa a brass button, weroin the city last evening giving street cancerts, for what they could collect. , They have melodious voices, and if they keep on improving will keep rising in tho world until tliev become members of a minstrel troup. The possibilities for the youth of to-day regardless of color, are unlimited, and even these little blind baggage ridera can be hcard-fora nickle. The Kkakos. Mr F S Ingram requests the Democrat to say that the reason Mr Straney had a bigger load of hay than liis was that the former loaded his on a barn lloor. he loaded his in the field and conveyed it several miles.
