The State Farmers Alliance organized at Portland tliU week, aJopcd the follow ing platform: Whereas, The general condition of our country Imperatively demands unity of action on the part of the laboring classes, reformation In economy, and the dlsseml- nation of principles best calculated to en courage and foster agricultural and me chantcal pursuits, encouraging the tolling masses-leading them In the road to pros- peitty, and providing a just and fair re muneration for labor, a just exchange for our commodltes and the best means of se curing to the laboring classes the greatest amount of good ; we hold to the principle that all monopolies are dangerous to the best In'.erests of our country, tending to enslave a free people and subvert and fin' ally overthrow the great principles pur chased by the fathers of American liberty. We therefore adopt the following as our declaration of principles: First To labor for the education of the agricultural classes In the science of eco nomical government, In a stilctly nonpar tlsan spirit, and to bring about a more per fect union of said classes. Second That we demand equal rights to all and special favors to non e. Third To Indorse the motto, "In things essential, unity, and In all things charity.'' Fourth To develop a better state men tally, morally, socially and financially. Fifth To suppress persona, laws, sec tional and national prejudices, all un healthy rivalry and all selfish ambition. Sixth To constantly strive to secure entire harmony and good will to all man kind and brotherly love among ourselves. Seventh The brightest jewels which It garners are the tears of the widows and orphans, and Its Imperative commands are to visit the homes where lacerated hearts are bleeding; to assuage the suffeilng of a brother or sister; bury the dead, care for the widows and educate the orphans; to exercise charity toward offenders, to con strue words and deeds In their most favor able light, granting honesty of purpose and good intentions to others, and to pro tect the principles of the Farmers' Alli ance and Industrial Union until death. Its laws are reason and equity, its cardinal doctrines Inspire purity of thought and life, its intention is, "On earth, peace, and good will to men." ADDITIONAL resolutions. That the national banks as banks of issue be abolished. That the government issue a sufficient amount of money to Increase the clrcula ting medium to not less the $50 per capita, said money to be full legal tender, all pre vious contracts notwithstanding. That the government of the United States nationalize all railways, telegraphs, telephones and other natural monopolies. That all officers be elected by a direct vote of the people. That the American saloon I9 a curse and an evil, and should therefore be abolished. That the ownership of land be restricted to the citizens of the United States, or those who may have declared their intention to become such, and that the holding of land or speculation purposes be condemned. That the sub-treasury plan become a law. That homesteads to the value of $2000 be exempt from execution. That the government grant loans on ap proved security to the amount not exceed ing $3000, at not more than 2 per cent interest. That no one Industry should be taxed ior the purpose or at the expense of build up another. That all revenues, state or national, be limited to the actual needs of the govern ment, economically administered. That a graduated tax on an Incomes ex ceeding the amount of $2500 be levied. That the coinage of silver be free and unlimited. That the government issue at once a suf ficient amount of treasury full legal tender notes to be paid over to the Union soldiers who by the nontractlon of the currency re ceived but a part of their pay, while the bondholders received theirs many times over.
