gives a population of 9450 for the four precincts

figmes were published to-day, giving the
county S600. -In 1SS5 the population was
1 10,035. I ne vote fr congressman in 18S6
wis 2062, while the vote this year was 2479.
On this basis the present populatian is not less
than 12,000. To claim that in the face of the
fact of the building of the Southern Pacific,
1 which was completed in 1S84 to this city, and
the hundreds of acres brought into market hy
the Oregon Pacific in tht; western part of the
countv, lhal we have lost nearly 200, is simply
another example of the manner in which the
so called census has not been taken.

pression of the treasury seal. The depart
ment will purchase during the remainder of the
month 2,760,000 ounces of silver, the amount
required under the provisions of the new law.
It is expected that to morrow the offerings will
he heaw. Intimations have been received
from dealers of offers to the amount of 4,000, -000
ounces. Director LeecV who will have
charge of the business, says he does not pru
pose to accept, and will give out only ihe
amount required-
