The Democrats in the lower house of con gress are preparing a plan of obstruction, by which Ihey hope to checkmate Republicans on important matters, By such means any ac tion of the Republican majority can be Hock ed, and the true primal principle of tin parly carried out to its fullest extent rule or ruin Mountaineer, Oh! fie upon such partisan effronitery. It is the republicans who are trying to adopt such rules as will make their rpcaker an autocrat for the purpose of depriving democrats of the very rights extended to the republicans by demo crats when the latter were in the majority. If the republicans were disposed to act furl ywhy do they not adopt such rules as will give the democrats the same rights on the floor as the democrats gave the republicans in all the con gressess which they have controlled? Our co temporaiy may be able to deceive some of its readers, but intell'gent people will nevu be deceived by such inexcusable misrepresenta tion, The republicans have determined to try the contested election ca:s before they adopt any rules so that they may have nothing to hamper them but their own sweet wills. They openly say that they must increase their slim majority by turning demociats out and putting republicans in without any regard whatever to the merit of the contest. There are 16 con tests before the lions?, the Contestants all be ing republicans. There is no merit in more than two, but eight or nine democrats just as fairly elected as any member of the house will be deprived of their seats simply because the republicans want a large majority. However, when the matter came np to be decided by the legislature the republicans abandoned their case on the ground that some of their members of the committer admitted that there were too many fraud ulent republican votes to stand contest. The very least that these republican pa p:rs could do now, would be to npologlze for the vicious misrepresentation they heaped upon the democrats of West Vir ginia, but it is safe to say they will never do so, and their readers will remain ig norant of the fact that their charges were malicious and untrue.
