U Encouraging quarterly reports were read by the officers and superintendents of the Albany W. C. T. U. at their meeting on Tuesday, the 15th. The President ipoke hopefully of Ihc prospects for the winter1 work, for which the exercises and mgges lions of the recent IMUrtct Convention had been helpful preparation. She regretted that more of the members hrfd nt been present to share In the instruction and in spiration to be gained from our state and national oritcers, who were oreent. She alro expressed her sense of the need of more than human power to dislodge the mighty foe the d ink and Ji ink traffic.so strongly intrenched behind the Stale and National government. Superintendent ol Juvenile work announced that arrange- menu were in progress 'or .eniming work in this department, and that the I-oyal Kenton would probahlv bj re-opened on Kr'day, Oct. 2sih. Members and lsltors, either ladies or gentlemen, who are alwavs welcome atall meetings.will thus have an oppo-lunity of becoming better acquainted with the ob ject and methods of the various depart ments ei w l u work Moral sua&ion and moral force is one of the foundation stones of the temperance reform, and must ever and continually be maintained. To make, to sell, or to drink is to iiave part in the sin and wickedness of the results. The appeal to the con science is one of the strongest weapons in this warfare. Rev. Dr. Ecob says ; "Every man who touches, tastes or handles this accursed tiling is a sinner against man and before God." This is one of the strongest arguments for absolute prohibition of the traffic that can be presented. The sin of the drink habitand drink tiaftic mustbe proclaimed so long as the drink exists and until it is banished from the face of the eaith. National Temperance Advocate, Moral suasion and moral effort, hovever, can never have much more than a few In dividual triumphs here and there, so long as the strong arm of the ttale is thrown around the liquor traffic, and It is legalized and sanctioned and protected by statutes and government officers. "Regulation" cannot regulate this "gigantic crime of crimes." The power and support of the state must be taken from the saloon and be placed around the home. The saloon must be outlawed and the individual pro tected. Then and then only can moral suasion have its full and rightful influence. Moral and legal effort joined hand In hand will as surely bring the yietory as there Is a ood in Heaven who tavors righteous ness and disapproves of sin and all iniquity, isanonai lemperance Jidvtcatt, Given Away.
