It is announced that the republican slate executive committee of Mississippi will meet in August and decide whether or not to hold a.'atc convention and place a lull ticket in the fieid. There is a very famil iar sound about till report.and it may now beconfiJcntly expected that (or the next lew weeks there Mill b-: more or lets dis cussion of the practicability of attempting to run a republican campaign in Misi"ipi. The the slate committee will get together and decide to to ahead, after which the partv papers at the north wi.l teem with glowing reports of the progress of the campaign. It will Be given out mat mere in great dissatisfaction in the ranks of the democracy and that thousands of democrats arc flocking to the republican standaid. It will be asserted that the entire negro vote is assured to the republicans, and that vic tory is in the ai. Then the election will come off, and everything will be in readi. r.css for the usual explanations. The dis satisfied democrats weie driven back into line, and the negro vote was suppressed. There w ill be no republican party to speak of in the state,after election.for the simple reason that there was none before election, and never had been any, as the managers well knew froir- the start, but the failure of the republican candidate to get votes will be made the basis for fiery (.'enunciation in the halls of congress and a grand display of the ensanguined and time-worn garment all along the line. It Is the same old game to make party eapital.and it will bs played In the same old way, from the time of the meeting of the state committee in August until months after the election hat been held and decided by the suffrages of the people. Then the president will be im portuned to do something for the braye but defeated candidates, and when these have roud nlaces at the public ciih, the uproar will cease until the rolling years bring around the opportunity to piay the game over again.
