window will open only at the bottoin,iack
the flannel there. The pillow case should
be changed frequently, and the pillow
turned as often as can be done without
disturbing the patient. A col, fresh sur
face next thfl face is very refreshing. Keep
the pillow well under the shoulders ; noth
ing is more tiring to a weak person than
to have the edge come ju:t in the hollow
of the neck, throwing the chin forward on
the breast.
Gently comb and brush the hair, and if
there is a beard, keep it washed and free
from tangles. If the patient is a woman,
part the back hair and braid each portion.
It can be coiled high on the head or al
lowed to hang in two tails. The nai'.s on
both hands and fee-should be caiefullr
attended to.
If the carpet cannot be removed, sweep
it daily w ith a carpet sweeper, or a broom
with a cloth wrapped around it, and burn
the dust. Wipe the woodwork and furni
ture daily with a dainpcloth. Never leave
mi'.k standing in a sickroom ; it quickly
absorbs impurities. If obliged to wait for
a few moments until th inval'd is ready
to take it, cover the glass containing it.
Make it a rule to leave nothing in the sick
room that is not positively needed there.
Remove every cup, glass and spoon as
soon as used, and wash ail bottles when
they are empty. Keep the little table be
side the bed covered with a white cloth, and
sec that it is always spotless.
Be as cheerful as possible and try to
leave worries on the other side of the doer.
Even when one is very tired and anxious,
a resalute effort of the will enables one to
do much to overcome the tendency to show
it. A calm nurse calms her. patient, and
nothing helps on recovery like a mind at
rest. Remember while there Is life there
is hope,- and never give way to despair
while life remains. Many a person who
has been give up to die has recovered to
years of usefulress. Keep up tiie nourish--ment
ss long as it can be swallowed ; it
-may be just the stimulation that is needed
to turn the scile from death to life.

A cew bill for the relief of the enterprise
was introduced by the Government in the
Chamber of Deputies June 13. It empow
ers the liquidator of the company to place,
on the best conditions possible and regard
less of the legal limit as to price, the Sod,
ooof. of the bonds which have not yet been
subscribed for. It also autnories a sub
scription of J4,ooo,ooof. to cover the expen
ses necessary for the maintainance of the
works pending an inquiry into the question
of the completion of the canal.

The business of freezing meats and fish
and preserving perishable products by
various systems of freezing and cold stor
age has come to be an important feature of
commerce. New York City now haseigiit
laige establishments devoted to it, with an
aggregate capacity of 15,000 ton?, besides
many private "plants" belonging to sepa
rate produce houses. Some of them use
the old process of ire and salt, while others
use the ammonia process. Dy the former
a temperature of 5 degrees can be reached,
and with ammonia it is said the mercury
can be sent down to 2odegrees below zero.
The freezing material is str,c through
pipes which line the large rooms in the
refrigerator store houses and become in
crusted with tee, keeping the atmosphere
crisp, dry and as cold as may be desired.
Poultry is the chief cor modify thus pre
served, and it is often kept frozen fifteen
months. Une firm stored last season 3100
pairs of prairie chickens, 15,000 pairs of
grass plover, 600 pairs ofcanvasback ducks
and 1300 dozen English snipe. The system
saves great loss and enables dealers 'o make
special profits on meats and fi uits out of
reason. Fruits and nuts are ke?t in a
more moderate temperature just ubove
freezing. Great quantities of beef and
other meats, cgg, vegetables, etc., are kept
in these houses, and if proper care is exer
cised it is cliimed that the rlavor is im
proved by long freezing.

ing Tamerlane to a table, but when the
chancellor left his chair the dog gave a
leap and brought the table and everything
on it crashing to the ground.
In the natural course of events the green
apple and the green melon and the small boy
will soon corue into collision,
