Who Was Hk. Last evening about o'clock a couple gentlemen entered the Democrat office and passed one of them off for Col Copeland. The poor substi tute for the Col made some crazy remark about high tariff, Oregon sheep and wool growers, and after a return shot from Democrat man, turned on his hee's and left. Most of the stockholders of the Browns ville Woolen Mfg. Co. went to Albany Monday and while there will receive bids for the construction of their Woolen Mills builc'ings. Dr. Viah and family Arrived here from Forrest Grove Monday, and heve rented the residence of tVm Byers, Friday we received our mail, tne first and only mail of last week. Monday we receive another mail, but from appearances now ( Luesday) it ii the last mail we will get tor sometime over the Narrow uuage. The men, if it be lawful to call them such, who have been running the train since the old hands quit were completely dis gusted Monday and declared they would leave the train at Coburg. They run out of water before reaching Coburg, and the ly arrow uauge train now is standing in tne middle of a Held about two miles north of Coburg. The people along this road have become thoroughly tired ot seeking ac coitimodatlor.s and giving to this road and have about as small an opinion of men that will work on it as they entertain for the managers of it. The people at the north end of the line refused to let new employees have anything to eat, and the employees in addition to such hardships as this declare the new Superintendent and Receiver of the road positively lied to them in order to get them to take hold of the train ; hence thev felt justified in leav ing the train at Coburg. Thev were from 7 a. m. to 6 p. in. coming from Ray's Land ine to Brownsville. Uur Postmaster sent the mail to Halsey this morning and we expect to get our mail from that point un til matters are settled on tins line. At a meeting of the committees on ar rangement for the 4th of July a commit tee on program was added to the other committees, and a committee on roasting an ox was appointed. W. R. Kirk has donated an ox which will be roasted on the ground in regular barbacue style. Hon Caleb Gray, of Halsey, President of the Linn County Pioneer Association was chosen President of the day. There arc a good many campers here now Camp meeting still continues. It will close next Sunday, June 9. Last Sunday there was a large crowd of people here, so many that It was very dif ficult to get soda water. We expect a still larger crowd next Sunday. There are still several houses vacant at this place, but they are rapidly becoming occupied. Frank Davis has a first class stock of goods on hand now; in fact he has the best stock of goods evel brought to Sodaville. Mr R Hardinan keeps a boarding house here, while Bud Hancy holds full sway at the Fountain house. Mr. David Warner, our worthy teacher spent last week at Salem, at the Teachers Institute. He reports hiving had a very nice time. Five new houses ate under construction now in town, of which one is erected by Ur. Hughes, who intends to use first floor as a drug store room. Rumor has it that about fiyc more will be built in the near future. Property is advancing in price already. Mr. Henry Tarbly, the S. L. Co's saw yer spent last Sunday with his family at Sialem. His being absent makes the town very quiet, I mean saw mill is not run ning then. The Santiam Lumber Company is build ing new wharf and are also putting in their pony saw, their mill is getting to be quite a structure and is far from being finished yet. Shipment of lumber from Mill City dur. ing month of May was 407,000 feet, which nearly all went to Albany. Miss Becca Stewart spent a few days, with friends at Albany last week. Mr. Badger, is building an addition to his house. He intends starting a boarding house in the near future. And rtlll they come two new families moved to this place last Wednesday. Mr. Wm. Williams, of California and S. W. Minturn, of the Coast. Every train is bringing new people, who are all well pleased with the place.
