That will give him no better standing with republicans, so long as he votes the democratic ticket. A confederate who now votes the republican ticket will receive far greater consideration at the hands of this administration than a union soldier win votes the democratic ticket, notwithstanding the very great love l'.;at party professes -.o entertain for the old soldier. After all, it is a mere question of politict ; if the voter is a republican he it all right soldier or no soldier, and if he Is a democrat he is all wrong soldier or no sol dier. The appointment of Henry Staawood, a ephew of James G Blaine, to he a Deputy Collector in the Custom House at New York, following the appointment of Secretary Blaine's son to be his own Examiner of Claims and bis private secretary to the fat Coasulate at Liver pool, shows how thoroughly nepotism is the fashion under the new Administration. The list of the President's family relatives or connections already provided for at (he public expense stands as follows to date: (I.) The President's brother. (2.) The President's father in law, (3.) The father in law of President's son. (4.) The brother of the husband of the Presi dent's daughter. (5.) The husband of the daugbter of the' President's brother. (6.) The husband of the niece of the Presi dent's wife. With the custom of "providing lor his own" and "satisfying himself' thus openly set by the President it is not strange that his associates and party friends fellow his example. Mr. Blaine's brother has long held a sinecure birth in one of the Departments at Washington, and its head railed a small cyclone recently by inti mating that he would like an efficient man in the place. Senator Sherman has just secured for his brother a Consulate, Consul Sherman Mr. Blaise's late Secretary, has appointed hit son to a salaried place under himself. Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Tichenor has done the same. And so it goes. There can be no doubt as to what the Re publican statesmen are "here for."
