The Democrat is sorry "Peck's Bad Boy" had such a paor house last night, for, we understand It gave aulte an eniovable and Jauerhable enter tainment. A few davs airo we aalil th.f if the advance agent of a show showed that he was atraid ot a lew cents spent for ad vertisements in the papers look out for the concern that follows, and that there would be plenty of Rood trouns. during the win ter without going to cheap john shows like me one Dinea Here. Whether th i !. cheap john show or not we do not knnw In Its field, variety business.it is probably as good as any. It is not by any means on Its last legs, for Mr. Sissons, the manager, snowea us a pocket full of gold twenties to prove It, and he has a bank account too. (We understand he inherited some money iccnuy.; meir agent, though, did his business in a cheap john way, and the sign generally proves true in reference to the troup, though it may not in this case. One member of the company said he was going to keep thousands of dollars away from Albany, and would tell peopleto keep away from here. Bah, such talk is childish. Our towns are not ruined on the recommenda tion of madcommedians. Flrst-classltroups corning to Albany and doing business in a busin. ss way do not have any grievances, and the dozens that spread out over the East will probably offset "Peck's Bad Boy," which, by the way, left the city in pretty good humor after all. Hogue. of the Ore gon Pacific, were in the city to day and made arrangements for the paying off of all their hands and those of Scarle & Dean, through the First National Bank. Not withstanding insurmountable obstacles, kicks from some of the press, and an unap preclative public,so far as some of it is con cerned, Mr. Hoag and his associates have kept right along towards Boise City, their hands are paid off and their consciences clear. Albany more than any other place should appreciate what the managers of this road have done for the city and country. The Democrat moves a unanimous vote of thanks. Attiik Front. We stated yesterday that it was rumored that carpenters and j Muuins tm cunsimcuon work, had been called in. It transpires that such was the case, Manag.'r Hoag going to the front and making an order to that effect. The order was countermanded on Sunday and the men put to work again. The 125 San Francisco Celestials were taken from Albany this morning for their home at the Golden Gate. -Jim Westfall," who brought them here, is very irrntefiil tnnnr riti kind services they rendered in getting them home and feeding them while here. "Jim" pretty good Kind ot a uelestial, but if any one thinks he is bankrupt they are grandly mistaken. We'd like a little of "i Kinu ot bankruptcy ourselves. In all probability he is worth at least $10,000. A Remarkable Bruicie. A laro-e ml. orcd cut of Portland issued by Stnver & Walker has caught the eye of the Demo crat this week. It displays the enter prise of that live firm. A curious part of the picture is a triple bridge. A train of cars is crossing the lower part. The cen tral portion is devoted to teams, while along the top a vessel is being oerenely navigated. A. R. R.
