SAVING BIRDS For Portland Hunters to Slaughter Every train for a day or two going to Portland has taken down eight or ten hunters loaded down with dead Mon golian ring necked pheasants, male and female. This morning there were ten or twelve old hunters with their im mense strings of birds over their backs, several times ten in some of them. One man yesterday afternoon had a string judges declared contained as many as fifty or sixty. Hundreds and hundreds of the finest birds in the county. And this is what the farmer boys and Albany boys save their ammunition for. "I don't blame the farmer boys, if they take a few cracks at them and get in ahead of these fellows," declared an Albany man. "And we do, "said a farmer boy, standing near, "I've been shooting the.fl right along." That's one siae. The other is getting a game reputation for a section, as a sporting field. We can't save all these things tor ourselves. Colorado people are glad to have the President help kill their couearsand bears, and true sports manship is appreciated here. But peo ple do hate a hog-, and the fellow with more birds than ht is evidently entitled to looks obnoxious. THE P. O. Shows a Healthy Increase of I Receipts. I The post office receipts for three , months ending September 30 were $2,646.91, an increase of $136.58 over the corresponding quarter of last year. With the renewed prosperity here the ; indications are that the receipts for the entire year will be nearly $14,000.- Last year they were less than $12,000. The great amount of business done by the R. F. D. men is shown in the fact that ' during September they delivered 24, 605 pieces of mail matter and collected i 2,uto. T;ie delivery of the different routes was: one 3,134, two 3,935, three 3,736, four 4,512. five 5.828. six 3.433. The showing is a splendid one for Albany. A New Front. f !
