County Judge Stewart late this after noon was notified by Secretary Roberts of the Linn county exhibit that individ ual exhibitors in the Linn county booth had been awarded 26 gold medals, 38 silver medals, 16 bronze medals, and more coming in agricultural. Miller, of Scio, returned last night from Portland, where he had been as a U. S. juryman. Not being taken in the Jones case he and others 'were discharged. I William Fortmiller went to Portland this .morning in response to a dispatch telling of the death of Mrs. Fortmiller's niece, the eight year old daughter, of Mrs. Samuels, after a short illness. I Mr. Herman Hecker a resident of I Thomas for many years, has rented the James Elkihs place and moved to this city to reside. Mr. Scott Ward and '. family, who have been residing there ' the past year, have moved upon Mr. Ward's farm at Fry station. Mrs. H. N. McDougall, who has been at Soda , ville for several months, has returned to Albany and accepted a position in the tailoring department of - the Blain Clothing Co., being an expert tailor of ' many years of experience. When he j went to Sodaville he was in a critical condition. Now he is fully restored to health, during his stay there gaining over 40 pounds. Reception for Rev. McDougall. : The members of the M. E. church and friends, last evening tendered a reception to Rev. and Mrs. J. W. Mc Dougall upon their return to the Albany church, a splendid expression of the appreciation in which the popular cou ple are held by the chnrch people, as well as Albany people generally. During the- eveninr an informal program was rendered, consisting of a piano solo by-Gertrude Reeves, a vocal solo by Dr. C. V. Littler, an address of welcome by N. M. Newport, a response by Rev. McDougall, remarks by several present, a piano solo by Mrs. R. L. Burkhart and a reading by Miss Orah Harkness. ' "On the Bridge at Midnight." Wiliam L. It has far surpassed his own expectations and consantly won enthusi astic praise. He set to work to wri'e his best play and when Messrs. Klimt and Gassolo saw the possibilities of tl e bridge scene they decided to make .t without a rival on the stage and did so. The result of the work of producers aid author is a powerful drama, slightly but genuinely melcdramatic without cheap sensationalism and scenically un forgettable. Mrs. Alfred Whee er, a well known pioneer citizen, died at the home of her son in Plainview Monday evening at the age of 66 years. Mrs. Wheeler, was a resident of Albany for many years, residing at the comer of Sixth and Ellsworth streets. She was a worthy Christian woman. She leaves five sons and four daughters, among them being George and Dean, residing at Plainview, Richard, an Albany col lege graduate, now in California, and Mrs. Newberry, wife of a prominent Pendleton lawyer. - The funeral service was held at the Bsptist church at 1:30 o'cloek this afternoon.'
