The opening argument to be made in the trial of Congressman Williamson et al this morning, after which the court ad journe d until Monday. ; Hene y outlined the new evidence, re garded by f he prosecution as of much importance .bearing directly on connect ion of Williamson with the alleged con spiracy, promUinir to show the Con gressman remain 2d in Prineville ten days at the time the conspiracy was concocted, which were unabble to pre viously to prove. The defendant's attorneys stated Williamson was being persecuted, har ried and hounded by the government, and hurried from one trial to another without time to catch breath. To-day at the Fair, i 1 Portland, Or. July, 23. Today is German day atthe Lewis and Clark ex position and at least 10,000 natives and descendants of the Fatherland from all points of the Pacific Northwest have gathered to renew old acquaintances and make new ones. The feature of the gathering is the its first session last night in greatest choral work ever heard in the north west, delighted an immense audience. An immense parade took place this afternoon headed by delegations from San Francisco, Seattle, Spokane, Walla Walla, Bellingham, Tacoma, and Port land. There were numerous floats and many of the delegations appeared in German costumes. Six Men KUled. Baker City, July 21. This city is freatly disturbed over a riotous and loody contest now in progress in the celebrated mining district in the north eastern part of this city. The fact that six have already been shot and that two battles have occurred is sufficient to cause apprehension. Town Wiped Out. Louisville, Ky., July 21. George town, Ind., a town 12 miles westof New Albany, on the Southern Railway, was almost washed away today by a cloud bnrst. Little Indian Creek, which runs near the town, became a torrent, and, rising out of its banks, spread over the surrounding couutry, doing much tfam age. So far as can be learned, no lives were lost. Died. Miss Ardelle, daughter of J. B. Mc Farland. died yesterday at the home of her father on the Tangent road at the age of 13 years, of consumption. She was a native of Linn county, a loveable girl whose death is greatly regretted.
