A Mixture of Things and Thoughts October came in with a fog. After all the pheasants were not all daad. A good many splendid grass hopper exterminators were taken away today. Nearly everybody "went pheasant hunting this morning from everywhere. Mr. Fairbanks has charge of Port land today. Just a matter of politics. A $10,000,000 tobacco merger is now being hatched, just before election too. Salem people are agitating the own; ership of their own water and electric light plants. That was a great thing in base ball when Portland won a game after losing ten straight. The Oregonian and Telegram were both well represented in the Chinese pneasant war near Albany this morning. A Portland man in the city on a hunt says he had Chinese pheasants at a rortiana restaurant a month or two ago. This is the day that the astute bird dog is appreciated. One might as well hunt for gold in a sand bank as for Diras without a good dog. In the Iowa penitentiary one man is in for six yeara for stealing chickens and another for a vear snd a half for stealing $54,000. That's some modern iustice! RELIGIOUS Sunday evening at the Congregational church the pastor will bring some nug gets from tne state association meeting just held in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. S. L.
