Frank Hurt' and wife, Miss Hartly and Mrs. Creffield are yet in the asylum and are said to be improving. A deed conveying a large amount of land from the Oregon & California Rail road Company to Faxon D. Atherton and others, executed April 12, 1870, has just been filed in Benton county. Acute anxiety prevails regarding the situation at Port Arthur, on account of the des perate character of the fighting report ed as taking place, although the War Office does not seem to Delieve that danger of the fall of the fortress is as imminent as is generally asserted. According to advices received by the War Office, there is still an ample supply of ammunition and provisions there. Chicago Wheat. Chicago, Aug. 19. Buying-panic number 33 struck the Chicago wheat trade at the opening today. Sensation al changes in prices are so frequent these days that the trade and the pub lic are getting used to it. The highest prices of the year, on the renewal of the sensational advance in wheat, were reserved for the closing ' hour today, when September wheat, sold at $1.10 1-2, December at $1.12 1-2 and Mav at $1.15 7-8, 4 cents and 5 cents over the close yesterday. Junction school boys recently defeat ed the Eugene high school boys, and here is some thing about it from the J unction--Times:- As usual the Eugene papers are ach ing over the defeat and are putting up all sorts of baby excuses. During the life of the state league the Eugene papers enjoyed the distinction of being the only baby papers within the zone of the league, and after Sunday's defeat they have resumed the cry baby act.
