The tallowing from the Galeaburg, III., Evening Mail, tells of the death of a former Albanywbman, mother of the Misses Howard, for five years In the millinery busineas here : After a long Illness of typhoid fever, Mrs. Elizabeth Howard of East Gales burg passed away at 2 o'clock Saturday morning, Dec, 5, aged 78 years and 20 days. Elizabeth Craft was born in Penn sylvania Nov. 15, 1825, and came to Illinois in ber girlhood day. She waa married to John Howard in 1849, To this union were born eight children, tve having died in infancy. One daughter, Oaesie, died nearly three years ago. There remain to mourn the loss of this dear and loved mother these children: F. 0. of Maquon, Emmet, Delburt and Ella of East Jaleaburg, and SuBan of Ellensburg, Wash. The husband and father died when the son, F. O., the oldest uhild.was only 15 yeara old, so the great responsibility of bring up these children all fell on the mother. She most nobly did her duty, always installing into her children truthiulnesB, honesty and temperance. She was a woman of much intellectual ability and was noted for her kind hospitality to ward her neighbor and friends and her kindness toward all dumb animals. A noble woman, a self-sacrificing moth er, has zone to her reward. She imit.nrl wiih tbe Methodist church in her girl hood days and ever retained her faith in hai Savior. Her last words were: want you all to pray for me." Destitute Chinese Family. There la little doubt that the late San Wa left nothing for his family notwith standing contrary leports. Last night the most sensational chap ter in tbe muddy story waa enacted . About 10 o'clock a band of about twenty prominent Oorvaills men orossed the river on the ferry boat, took Creffield and his fellow apostle Brooks, convejed them to a placenear the saw mill, near Corvallis, where they stripped them and applied a liberal dose ot tar and feathers and then permitted them to return borne, which they did and spent the re mainder of the night in cleansing them selves, bnt not so well but what the tar could be emelled on Creffield tbia fore noon when married. Brooka skipped out. but Creffield aeema to have appre ciated one of tbe things the people ob jected to, tbe free love part of the estab Uebment, which has been disgracing the outfit ana as well tbe entire community, and early this morning left for Albany resolved in getting that muoh ont of the way. Tbe Democrat has received a private letter from a Corvallis friend, who waa probable one ol the crowd who manipu lated the tar, who confirms the above. When covered with tar and feathers they were told that if tbey ever came back again they would wake up eome morning dangling to a telegraph pole. Creffield wanted to pray, but tbey told him be had done enough of that. Then be said: "Lord lorgive them they know not what they do. Two are reported in sane from tbe doings, one already in the asylum, besides all tbe things destroyed. During the tarring the women followed praying and singing, This afternoon the couple and Mr. and Mrs. Hurt cot in tbefr back and left for the Beach farm, where tbey will do well to bebave themselvee, as there is said to be more tar and feathers lift.
