The name of foot ball yesterday after. noon between O. Coinpaay of Eugene and G. Co. of this city proved a very in tereetlng contest on the gridiron. Albany eleven bad resolved on at leas1 stopping the Eugene boys from scoring and their great game was therefore a de feniivit one, though attimea their offensive play wan last and enective. in the verv start after three minutes play through a cross trick play Saltmaren carried the Dai i aiaoa oy spienaia interference on tbe part of Coatee past tbe coal line, but , it was outBide of bounds a ad waa brought i back in tront oi the coal, vttien Eutrene eucceeded in getting the ball and worked it out ot danger, in the second half Eu gene carried tbe ball to within a few feet of Albany's goal, when G. Company made a desperate druggie and secured the ball on downs, hen it was taken back into tbe mid ale of tbe field, where it remained. There was about two inches, of enow oo tbe ground making the sphere very slippery and hence there were plenty oi lumDier, particularly on tue part of Albany at critical times. Good playing was done by all the Albany men. particularly Saltmarsh, Ed and Ohtrles Stewart and Coatee, whose work though wculd have been ineffective without tbe backing from the line. Lack of team work was the fault. McDaniel seemed to do the most effective work lor Eugene. Prof. Burden, of Eugene, and Rev. Steven sou, of this city, were umpire and referee and Oapt. Williams and J. A. Finch timekeepers. 1 Ladies Aid Society. Tbe .regular meeting of tbe .Ladies ;Aid Society will be held at the residence of Mrs L E Blain on Thursday January 3, at 2:30 pm.
