The Portland Bulletin announces the
death of Cyrus Gilliland. a young man
raised in Douglas county where his
father resides. Young Gilliand and a
friend named AVm. Moore were in
camp at Blackport, Idaho, where he
had been employed in driving cattle.
The particulars are not given, but it is
supposed the shooting was by Indians.
A brother of Mr. Gilliland was shot
and killed by accident, near Itoseburg
about three vears ago.
A sad life history closed at scran
ton, P.i., last week. A young mar
ried woman named Teets was found
dead of hunger and neglect in a
wretched garret. Her bubo, two days
old, wa found by her side. Mrs.
Teets hid her poverty from the neigh
bors, and several days ago cut oft" her
hair and sold it to buy food, while
her worthless husband was carousing
in a saloon. She also old all her
clothing to eiistain life, and the onlj
article of apparel found in her apart
ment was an old nij,ht dre6 wrapped
around her child.
