VOLUME XXV CENTRAL POINT. OREGON THURSDAY. MAY 21. 1953 Ramblin’ 'Round The Foiirt By "Tick" Malarkay w Just finished reading Monday's editorial in the Medford Mail Trs> une. It was authored by Eric Allen, Jr., city editor of that papei and this writer's immediate boss when he wrote "Pickin’ Pears" and straight news from Camp White. Subject of Eric's editorial was the location of a new fire station and the conduct of Medford's city council And we quote: “W e sometimes wonder why councilmen run for office. The work is difficult and takes much time, the jobs are unpaid and criticism is in escapable. It is fortunate that the city has men—competent, honest men— who are willing to devote their time to public service in this direction.” • • • So this brings us to a thought about Central Point’s six council men and its mayor who serve with out pay. And who for the past two Monday evenings have been "sweat ing out” the intracies of a city bud get with a budget committee. And this next Munday night there will be the regular assembly for our council. The hours are long. The problem: are many. The personal gain i: nothing. So a break in our every day affair: is taken. We take this occasion t call attention to people of “Tht Point” to make note of their goo< fortune in having such good mei sitting in the seats of our city ccun cil. Maybe there are some wh don't know their names. Here they are: JOHN WISELY. ROBERT PAD GETT, V. E. NOEL, E. R YOCUM TRUMAN BRENNER. ROY KELLY and DON BUR ELSON, mayor. (!) apa The Myers-Holland Post, 129. American Legion, in regular meet ing May 14, 1953, elected the follow ing officers for the coming year: Commander Albert Thompson; Sen ior Vice Commander. B. Frank Glenn; Junior Vice Commander Veva Hill, Adjutant George Evans; Finance Officer Bert Smith: Chap lain, Dewry Gearvin; Sergbant-at-; Arms, Marcus Legg; Service Officer ; Williams B. Keizur, Sr. Hugo Webman was elected to a five-year term cn Executive Com mittee, and Harvey Cassman elected to fill the unexpired term of the late Major C. L. Pierce. Delegates to the Department Con vention elected were Commander Albert Thompson, Dewey Gearvin. Veva Hill, Alternates, Bert Smith. John McQuade and Bert Shrier. The next meeting of the Post will be held Thursday evening. May 23, 8:00 P.M. with a pot luck supper at 3:30 P.M. served by the Ladies Auxi liary. There will be surprise enter tainment and other special features planned by the entertainment com mittee. All veterans and their families are nvited to attend. The flag before the Myt. Words are not at this writer's command to express himself fully; but perhaps some solace can be found for his loved ones in the following lines: NUMBER 34 I Invitation Extended To Attend Memorial Day At Camp White May 30 Paul A.
