THURSDAY. JULY 10, loit CENTRAL POINT IMlillll IN. C ENTRAL POINT. OREGON' CUR DEMOCRACY .T-V.- By K. D. P. LOCALS .—r-' Ray Watkins is a very hard man to figure out sometimes. He has prob ably broken the laws of the state in hunting or fishing at time* as most of us have, He has seen many men snag salmon or catch salmon to split them up for fresh eggs. He has said nary a word against them, a*» far as 1 can remember. —0— Yet, when such a company Copco killed maybe 50 fish through the use of dynamite to blast out th* bedrock at Gold Kaj dam. such a howl of calamity as could be heard all over Jackson county came from Ray. He said that he saw dead fish floating down the river with one particular reference to a dead salmon mounter which he claimed must weigh In the neighborhood of 50 pounds (I wonder what brand is he using.) --- 0— I do not think that Copco w<>u!u be Very careless In the use of pow der to blast the bedrock. They use expert man to handle that delicate job and no matter how careful they are, they are bound to kill some fish. If they had used an Inexperienced man in the handling of the powder work, the charge would probHldy have done much more damage fish life. —o— Before the dam and fish ladder completed many fish may die as suit of the blasts but in th. end will have good fishladder.-, and a good watertight dam that will able sufficient water to go down ladders. Usually when at the stage there are mighty few fish ir. that deep pool just below the dam and I think there will be only a minimum of salmon killed. —0— And if Copco were forbidden th«- use of dynamite in blasting out the bedrock, I. for the life of me. cann it see how they would be aide to fix up a new ladder inside one year. They’ve got to hustle to finish the work before high water marks come next winter. SECim IN THEIR. PERSONS Martha L.
