The following menu will be served: creamed chicken, inashed potatoes, buttered peas and carrots, pear salad, cake and whipped cream, butter rolls and coffee. The price of the dinner will be fifty cents. The proceeds of the dinner will be turned over to the firemen to use in the purchase of new equipment. The firemen will sell tickets for the dinner and everyone is urged to bu> at least one to help out the good cause. W. R. C. M Julius William Birkholz. 65, well known resident of southern Oregon, residing at Central Point for the past 30 years, passed away at the lamily home Sunday at 12 p.m., fol- lowing a stroke of apoplexy he Rtlf- fered earlier in the day. Mr. Birkholz was born in Cleve- land, Ohio, July 9, 1874. He moved w-lth his parents when very young to Milwaukee, Wis., where he grew to manhood and attended school, also graduating front the University of Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Miss Eleanor J. Thomas, in Milwaukee In 1902, and after their marriage they moved to Newark, N. J., where he was In the engineering business. He spent some time in New York, and came to Jackson county in 1910. Dur ing his residence here he has en gaged In orcharding. He leaves to mourn his departure besides his wife, one son, Roland Birkholz, of Medford, one sister, Mrs. Irma Nieman and one brother, Edward Birkholz, both of Milwau- kee, Wis. Funeral services were held Tues day afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Perl Funeral Home, with Rev. D. E. Millard, officiating. Concluding ser vices were held in Grants Pass. A large group of friends from this city attended the services. The annual in»-eting of the local telephone com pany, scheduled tor that afternoon, was postponed one hour to allow delegates to attend the funeral. MEET The delegate board of the Central Point Mutual Telephone company held their regular annual meeting at the telephone building Tuesday af ternoon. The report of the auditing committee was read, which showed that the affairs of the company are in fine shape. Quite a number of new phones have been installed dur ing the year. The board instructed the executive committee to have the cable cross ing Pine street at Third, which went bad this summer, removed for in spection, and if found too far gone to be repaired, to install a new one. At present service is being given subscribers in the northern part of the city through overhead wires erected temporarily with the con sent of the city, across Pine street. The board was also Instructed i O make an Investigation regarding the Improvement of night calls coming to the local office. The election of officers resulted in the re-election of all the old of ficers: E. C. Faber, president; O. S. Blackford, vice president and W. E. Alexander, secretary-treasurer. Mr. Alexander was given the privilege of securing the help of an assistant on account of his advanced age. Mr. and Mrs. Tharp were given a new contract for the coming year as operator and manager. Mrs. Clara Gregg To Last Reward Clara D. W. Gregg, aged 88, passed away at the home of her son, Jas. Gregg Wednesday 2:00 A.M., January 10, 1940. Clara D. Whittemore was born une 1, 1851 at Newport, Kentucky. She moved with her parents when nine years old to Cincinnati, Ohio, where her father practiced medicine. In 1872 she was united in marriage to Dr. Perry Gregg at Cincinnati, living there until 1907 when they moved to Dayton, Ohio. She moved to Central Point four and one half »ears ago. She leaves to mourn her departure two sons, Jas. Gregg, Central Point and Dr. Walter Gregg of Dayton Ohio, four grandchildren Perry J. Gregg, Lucy M. Skeeters, Dr. Walt er Gregg and Charles L. Gregg. Also two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Sherman L. Divine at Con ger chapel at 2:00 P.M. Saturday. Final rites will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Medford. The Southern Oregon Sugar Pine company have closed down for the winter, after enjoying a long run. The plant will Btill he shipping and selling lumber.
