« CENTRAL POINT AMERICAN VOLUME XI CENTRAL POINT. OREGON. We always knew there was a Special Providence to look after fools and editors and so far this trip has proved it. In the first place we started out *n a rain, which stopped before we even got to Medford, at least it didn’t rain steady. Then, we had been afraid of the heat in the Sacramento valley. But as we neared the summit of the Sisklyous we ran into snow. SNOW, mind you pn the 16th of June, and enough to cover the trees and ground. And it snowed hard enough to plaster the windshield a half-inch thick, Then it showered nearly all day, mostly we would note sign« of a shower having just fallen, but hardly a drop on us. Just kept the air fresh «nd cool, In fact we didn't open the car windows until after we left Red Bluff • • • Next in our record of good luck is the fact that we didn’t have a bit of trouble finding the place we were looking for in the Valley of the Moon. Drove right up to the house without a bit of trouble. Sunday the daughter and her husband took us to the Fair for Father’s Day. And believe me, it was SOME day. • • • We drove to Sausfllto and put the car in a storage garage right along side the ferry. Walked over to the ferry building and found a boat just ready to leave. The trip across th» Ray was gorgeous. No wind, no fog and warm enough so we sat out side and admired the scenery. At the ferry building in San Francisco we walked over to another ship and again found our boat just reody to start. Landing at the Fair entrance on Treasure Island we went at once to the Shasta Coscade building, where we called on Tom Stanley, manager, to express our thanks for sending us a press pass to the grounds and also to jack him up a bit for not giving credit to an Oregon lady who lied for second place in the Pioneer Rail contest. Tom promised to see that Miss Hanley received proper re cognition. « Then we spent the <la.v strolling about the grounds. Of course such a hurried inspection was of mighty little value in giving us a right to criticize the Fair. And anyway, we have no criticism to make. The whole thing is beautifully planned and carried out. But will admit wo felt a bit ashamed of the Jackson county showing. There Isn't * «>un- ty in the state which has more to offer the tourist reached by the Fair pubiclty than has Jackson county Rut the best we could offer was a beautiful painting of Crater Lake, (located in Klamath County?) Another thing which ¡.truck us was the fact that hardly a nation outside the Western Hemisphere was represented. As one who worked the entire summer of 1S93 on the grounds of the World's Columbian Exposition at Chicago, we felt a lot was lacking to enable the present af fair to be labeled a World's Fair. • • • But In one *ay they’ve got the older fair badly beaten. And that la the lights. We just havn't the gift of words to express their gor- geous beauty. Those massive build ings looked fairly transparent again st the sky. While by day we didn’t pay much attention to the Tower of sight the Sun But at night It ’• a *lR*t never to be forgotten. Today, (Monday.) we ar« again on our way south and this |« Heine written in a tourist cabin near Bakersfield. The last time we were In Bakersfield it was hot enough to fill the air with the smell of burn Ing rubber from the car tires. Today, while clear, has only been comfort- ably warm, We only pulled our coat at noon near Stockton. • • • Tomorrow we will land in L. A, And it doesn't get" a lot worse than at present, we ask you. "Aren’t we right about that special Provid ence?"
