Central Point Am erican I VOL. I MILLS START BIG INDUSTRY THE CENTRAL POINT AMERICAN THURSDAY, JANUARY 21, 1926 a filbert meeting at the Salem Chamber o f Commerce, the object o f which meeting was to create a rural Chamber o f Commerce in Marion county to bo affiliated with the Sa'.em Chamber o f Commerce. While in the capital Mr. Foster discussed the land settlement program with the State Treasurer Thomas Kay and members o f the state lhnd board. Tuesday Mr. Foster visited the chambers o f commerce at Newberg and McMinnville. Wednesday coop erative work was started at Dallas and on Thursday Mr. Foster will re turn to Salem fo r definite land set tlement organization. Next week Mr. Foster is planning on going to Bend, and the last week o f January or the first week o f Feb ruary will in all probability be spent in southern Oregon, where a harvest o f land settlement work was accomp lished in 1925, and where extensive plans are being made fo r 1920. Some time later in the month o f February, Mr. Foster will extend his tour to the coast counties. T o l edo and Newport have already sig nified that they are anxious to create land settlement departments in their organizations. The outlook for the migration of new settlers to Oregon during 1920 is very bright. Mr. Foster states that his records show that hundreds o f families are contemplating coming here this year. State Treasurer Kay is in sympathy with the settlement o f vacant lands and the vast acre ages o f legged-off lands, which on account o f locality are particularly attractive to settlers o f moderate means at this time.
