A clique is com posed of those who are present every Sunday, who respond to every invitation to share a res ponsibility, who attend business meetings, who give sacriflc- lally, who never complain, who make suggestions to the proper officers, who pray regularly for the church and its program, who read the Bible consistently, and who in general do the work. P.S Everybody is cordially invited the join the clique! Dear Josie: Aunt Mary called me on the party line the other day, Had a nice visit and sure good to know she is back home from Alaska. Said she had bought a new re frigerator from the most ex pensive store in town. She’s not sure that it cost more than her old one, but she thinks it will cost her longer. Credit is sure a blessing! Dropped by the fire hall the other day to say hello to all the busy boys. Jim says he hasn’t seen a checker-board in the fire hall for years. Now a d a y s between fires, fire fighters are toobusy filling swimming pools, flushing spi lled gas, rescuing cats, kids, and parakeets from trees, re fereeing rubbish barbeques, checking heating systems - and even burning down abandoned buildings on request. The Garden Club has a Ca mpaign to beautify the road sides around our town. One very good suggestion I could add and the simplest way would be to persuade the brewers to put spring flowers and designs on their beer cans. Sure been having some hot weather, and feel kinda sticky not having my shower last night. They asked us to save on the water a while, and even though it was the Fourth of July, I’m patriotic. It seem s impossible, but maybe we would get tired of a calender of twelve Junes, especially like the past one. Hope you noticed the new pai nt Job on the fence as you pass ed by. After carefully choosing a long lasting white, we pro ceeded with vim and vigor, and we are really modern, with our shades of grey. Who says we have smog? Paw and I are gradually get ting used to being brought out of bed now days by a shrill blast on a whistle. First we thought they had moved the train track, but it is only our teen-age neighbor practicing tor her summer assignment as a camp counselor. The blessings of culture reach the young in wonderous ways. While having visiting grandchildren recently, one remarked “Please don’t put the cereal away yet, I’m still reading the box.* Our old rheumatic dog spra wls all day in the summer sunshine; I hope some day I’ll learn to get half that much solid pleasure out of the sim ple things of life. The Crater Cubs getting 5 runs in the 1st Inning won hardily over Eagle Point Fri day night at the White City Field. Dave Saxbury led the game off with a long triple scoring the first run on a double, hit Mike Johnson. John Bartley went all the way for the Crater Cubs and Dan Reed went the route for Eagle Point. This gives our cubs an undefeated record. KIRBY RENFRO HURLS NO HITTER Kirby Renfro shut out the Ashland Grizzlies Legion 9 on a masterful 7 inning no hitter. ‘ Errors led to Craters only run a walk , a passed ball and a wild throw by Ashland pitcher Wa ddell scored McNichols with the only run of the game. In the second game it started out as a wild one with Crater scoring 5 runs on hits, errors and balks, but Ashland came back in the 3rd to score 4 runs, but Crater countered in the bottom of the 3rd to sew the game up. Craig Graham pitched and did a fine Job we can look for ward to havingGraham, Renfro, Snook as a fine pitching staff next year. LEGION “9* BEATS COOS BAY 6-5 14-2 With all the excitement that usually goes on when Crater plays Medford was as usual last week as our Crater nine again defeated Medford at Jack- son County Ballpark 3-2. It was a Bailey Brothers Act with Bob hitting a home run and Brother Dave pitching. It was a well played game except for some antics by the Medford Coach and bat throwing of a Medford player. It is hard for this writer to realize why we cannot get better attendance at these games, they are well played and the boys are fine players. Come on you folks support these boys. C .P. RAMS BAG ASHLAND 9-2 With John Bruce pitching su perbly stricklng out 17 batters and walking none the Central Point Rams bombed helpless Ashland 9-2. Bruce also tripled along with Dan Reed. Dave Saxbury went 3 for 4, on a double. Mike Johnson and Dave Saxbury have completed 5 double plays pretty good for this age group. CRATER LEGION DEFEATS MEDFORD 3-2 In the first game after being down 5 runs the locals kept chipping away until they pulled the game out of the bag. Kirby Renfro, Pat Sutton and Dave Bailey all tripled for the locals Jack Snook was the winning pit cher. In the second game with Steve Hensen pitching a 1 hitter and hitting a home rum led his team to victory. Weige unloaded a triple with the bases loaded. Renfro also tripled. Get out and see these boys play they are good.
