The farmers of this locality in the main are progress ive and conservative. The only trouble we feared was that they might be too conservative in this inslance and stand in their own light. We congratulate those who have signed up within the past few days to grow beets. The Sun says: Interest in the sugar beet cam paign continues to grow, and the final ton day of the battle for ac reage promises to see the full re quired amount signed up. It is beginning to dawn noon all class es that the loss of tfie factory would be a blow to the industria future of the valley, and an hon est effort is being put forth to cinch its coming. The commit tee will have a statement on the acreage total the first of the week. Saturday resulted in the signing up of new contracts, and the lining up of several prospect ive signers. By extending the final date to December 1st, the city and val ley is given an additional oppor tunity, which makes a hurry and hustle after it is secured to he ready for the 11)1(5 crop, by the company. There is a gradual awakening of interest in the Central Point district. WANTS TO RENE LAND TOR BEETS K Burchill of Rogue River was in town Monday transacting bus iness. Mr. Burchill desires to rent ten acres of good land near here to plant in Sugar Beets. He has had experience in raising i the sugar beets and considers them a profitable crop. A feat- mo of this industry that appeals to him is the marketing of his crop. \\ hen he plants the sugar beets he knows there is u mar ket for them at a profitable fig- ur*. Every acre in this vicinity ¡-hould be planted to sugar beets this coming season. It means prosperity. O n » L#«»on Laarnad. Flexibility of English. English la not only, as Richard J e f feries asserted, the most expressive and flexible of tongues, but also. In Sw inburne's opinion, the most musical. He proclaim ed the lines— Music that gentller on the spirit lies Than tired eyelids upon tired e>es to he un m atched for melody In any language. And few would venture to contradict such a m aster of music and tongues. But surely F reuch ranks next on th e roll of languages. F or c le arn e ss of diction It Is unrivaled, and, (hanks to Its ubtiudunce of vowels (close on one for every consonautl, it flows rhythm ically from the tongue. - f “f + + + + + + + + ' v - ' 4 " + + + + + ' f ............ . . . ......................... 2 K O D O L I v hen you w ant dru*fs j yc i want P u r k D r ug s + D Y * S « ï P ) F E P » C S !
