The Pacific International Livestock Exposition, scheduled for Portland next Fall, promises to be one of the best stock shows ever held in the West. Great preparations are being made al ready to secure the entry of a very 1 ;rge number of blooded cattle, sheep and hogs. This is the third annual show and premiums amounting to $10, 0 M have been arranged. School children of the state are busy gardening, intent on securing prizes offered at the State Fair next Fall. The schools of Portland are teaching g irdening just as religiously as they d i arithmetic, and 2,700 boys and girls are tilling individual plots and planting vegetables. The same activity is going on throughout the whole state and this year's contest will more generally rep resent all Oregon than the last. Medford council has now rescinded the franchise given to the Minney com pany and later sold to another syndi cate which called for privileges in building and operating a street railroad system in that city and to extend into interurban lines and granted a like favor to one S. S. Bulbs, only with the stipulation that work shall commence immediately. One mile is to be com pleted within eight months and two miles within the year. It seems the former company is willing to give way to the ltullis interests and that all parties concerned are agreeable to the change. It appears, too, that Mr. Bulbs and his people really mean to deliver the goods. The irrigation pro ject bids fair to be soon under way. The cement plant for Gold Hill is assured. Now with the prospect of motor car lines in the valley it would seem as if times were really looking up.
