C. Leever and son Earle, and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Myers, left Sunday morning for Portland where they are in attendance at the annual grand lodge meetings of the Masonic order and enjoying the sights of the Rose Show. Mrs. Victor Bursell, who was visiting her parents at Eugene, ex pected to join the Ceutral Point party at Eugene and accompany them to Portland. AND SCREEN DOORS C. B. Rostel left a sample of what has been pronounced rich iron ore at this office the other day which he in forms the Herald was taken from the excavation for the new Presbyterian church edifice. Mr. Rostel believes that if there is a sufficient quantity of the ore it might be a factor in helping to put Central Point on the map to a greater degree than ever before. W. G. Mr. Reams advertised for a name for his place offering $5.00 for the best suggestion. Archie Parker by a happy application of good judgement and brevity won the first prize when he suggested “ The Siskiyou.” Clifford Hatfield and Frank Hull were such close seconds with “ The Siskiyou Confec tionery,” and "TheSiskiyou Fountain,” that Mr. Reams also awarded them a prize of $1.00 each, Mr. Parker receiv ing $3.00. Nearly 100 persons compet ed for the prize and interest in the matter was quite lively. S. MOORE ♦ t * At the old stand W. C. Daley, of Lake Creek, was assulted by Frank Ceol last Friday re ceiving »'fractured skull and other in juries. The trouble arose over an ir rigation ditch from which water Is ♦ served to both the Daley and Ceol I ranches. Ceol and his wife and daugh- 4 . ter, it is alleged, joined in the attack J on Daley the women having, it is said, used a hoe and a shovel with which to beat Daley while Ceol held him down. Daley was at first reported to be very seriously injured but it is understood now that he is rapidly recovering. Ceol was placed under arrest and brought to Jacksonville where he was j given a preliminary hearing and held to the grand jury in $8000 hail which was furnished. Mr. Daley is the democratic candidate for county commissioner in I this county and is a prominent and j popular citizen. ! R. E.
