Table Rockets CENTRAL POINT Henry Head was very seriously In jured last Friday morning near the Bear creek bridge by being thrown from his horse while on his way to town. Mr. Head was riding one horse and leading another, when be met the Painter brothers and John Roes in an auto. The horse he was leadiog became frightened and ran around the other, throwing the horse Mr. Head was riding and throw ing the rider to the ground with great violence. His head struck a boulder with such force that he was rendered unconscious. The injured man was carried to the home o f Mr. Beebd and medical aid was summoned, and, al though his return to consciousness has been slow, the doctor thinks he will soon be fully recovered from the effects o f the accident. Action waa begun Monday to prevent prohibition from going into effect in Medford, as provided under the city charter. A temporary injunction waa applied for from Circuit Judge Hanna by Attorney Robert G. Smith, repre senting J. C Hall, to reatroin the coun ty court from declaring prohibition in effect in Medford, as provided under the local option law. It is expected that the prohibitionists will seek to dis charge the injunction, which the wet forces will seek to have made perma nent. Attorney McAllister o f theAnti- Saloon league is In Medford, presumably to defend the league’ s cause. The charter’ s clause under which « « i o n is brought reads as follow s: “ The city council shall have power and authority within tho city limits o f Medford to license, tax, regulate or prohibit barrooms, drinking shops, bil liard rooms, bowling alleys, dance halls, and all places where spiritous, malt or vinous liqnors are sold or kept for sale, irrespective o f any general law o f the state on this subject enacted by the legislature or by the people at large.’ ’ The county court is compelld by the option law to declare the result o f prohibition 11 days after the election. The case will be fought at every point by the wet town advocates. Attorney Smith said Monday: "T his is not a question o f sentiment, but o f law. The cou rt! will pass upon the law, which, I think, is altogether in favor o f the charter, which was passed after the local option law. The only supreme court decision upon the point is that o f the case o f Renshaw vs. the county court o f Lane County, where it was held that if the city charter had been specific on the question involved it would have been binding. Medford’ s charter is specific.’ ’ Revs. A C. Howlett and M. C. He was buried at Med ford Friday under the auspices o f the Masonic fraternity. Ashland W ill Gelebrate. J. G. Morrison and family left last week for California to seek a location. Our best wishes go with them. Mr. W olfer o f Eagle Point was here Monday removing his effects from the ranch recently sold to Mr. Findley. The Agate baseball club came here Sunday to polish off our Table Rock boys, but they found the contract too much for them, and quit with a score o f 20 to 4 to the bad. This precinct went dry by more than tw o to one at the late election, which, in connection with the closing o f the Agate drug store, leaves us dependent an water fo r a morning appetizer. Our Sunday-school, in connection with those o f Agate and Reece Creek, will observe Children’ s day June 14th with a basket picnic on the river bank near the By bee bridge. A suitable program is being prepared fo r the occasion, which will doubtless be an enjoyable one. All are invited and a good at tendance may be expected. Miss Mae Nealon is home to take a well earned rest, having closed a suc cessful term o f school in the Agate district last week. She was roused from an after dinner nsp Sunday by the entrance o f her late scholars ac companied by Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Beebe. Before Miss Nealon was fairly awake Miss Florence Kinkead, with a complimentary address, presented her with a valuable ring as a token o f the appreciation o f her work by the school and the love and esteem they had for her. Without a moment’ s delay Misa Fay Grigsby came to the front and, with a neat little speech, gave her a beautiful bracelet—a g ift from the L'ncoln Literary Society o f Agate. Miss Mae was so moved with the sur prise and her gratitude for the love o f her late pupils that words failed and gave way to tears. A t this juncture the Agate ball team stopped on their return from the ball grounds and, a supply o f ice being on hand, were put to work on an ice cream freeser, at which they were more o f a success than at the bat A plentiful aupply o f ice cream and other fixings was served to the company, who spent a couple o f hours very pleasantly.
