Two years ago the little city o f Cor vallis installed a municipal water sys tem supplying the town with pure mountain water at a cost o f $75.t»00. A report recently filed by the water commission for the year ending December 31, 1907, shows that the revenue from the sale o f water to con sumers for that year was $10,242.61. Continuing the report shows a balanee of earning on hand, after paying all ex penses, including the annual interest at 5 per cent on $75,000 outstanding bonds, o f *3,949.98. During the year, there has also-been paid out from th< earnings o f the plant *1000 a nart of the purchase price o f the privately- owned system that was in operation before tne municipal system was in stalled. The city mountain-water system has been in operation a little more than two years, but has already demonstrated itself to be a marked financial success. To the installation o f the mountain water system is attributed a part of the explanation o f Corvallis, vigorous growth, which resulted in the addition of more than 8 per cent in 1907 and nearly 13 per cent during 1906, to the number oi homes in the city.
