W, Merritt, o f this place, and Peter Applegate, o f Jacksonville, owners o f the buzzard group, on Elk Creek, about 45 miles northeast o f Central Point, have recent- j ly bonded the property to a syndicate \ o f New York and English capitalists, the bond to run for 14 months from July 1st. Recently J. T. Maclean, a prominent mining engineer, o f New York city, arrived here as a represent ative o f the prospective purchasers to ; examine the property and to report on I the same. Mr. Maclean returned from the mines | last Saturday morning and his state ments lo M r, Leever and Mr. Merritt indicated that he was not only astonish ed at the magnitude o f the proposition, but that he was more than pleas'd with the property. He left Saturday forenoon for Ashland and stated that he would lose no time in having his samples assayed and in getting his re port ready for his principals. The Buzzard group was discovered several years ago, and considerable development* work has already been done on the property by the present owners. The property is an immmse porphyry dike embracing the entire j mountain and is a strictly quarrying ' proposition, theze being, it is claimed, millions o f tons o f ore in, sight at this time. A number o f prospecting shafts and tunnels have been driven and all show comparatively the same values, which run $3.50 and better per tun. A Huntington, mill with a capacity o f 12 tons o f ore p er day v*as installed on the property several years ago for prospecting purposes and a number of trial runs have-been made at various | times, all o f which have been eminently j satisfactory. Last month Messrs. ; Leever and Applegate, with, a small j force trf men, ma<!e a run o f a few days and the results were better than any o f the owners hoped for. Mr. Maclean stated that the parties now holding the bond will at onae im prove the present mill and add an addi tional conxerjtrator. so that better re sults may be secured in their initial prospecting work than the present plant is capable o f and he will recommend that a new plant o f 21)0 tons daily capacity be placed on the property as soon as the same can be secured a fter they have decided to take up the bond. Tests will be made to, determine what method can, bo best employed to, handle the ose, whether by the cyanide pro cess, or with a smelturt The property Is likely to develop Into one o f the w orld’ s great mines and will be in the same class as the Treadwell, in Alaska, and tho Hmnestake, at Bead- wood. The development o f such a mine in this section will mean much to Central Point and all o f the Rogue River Valley. Power for all purposes can readily be obtained from Rogue River, above Prospect, either from tbe com pany’ s own plant, or from the Condor Water and Pbwer Co. s proposed plant at Prospect. It is altogether probable that the next few months wilbsee much activity at the oamp. Itfs a Bod Cdse AUGUST 8, 1907, «2 50 m edford , O r e g o n . once entertaining and instructive.
