The junior: Monts.played:# good game in the forenoon and the Central Point aids walked #w ay with the honors easily to the tune o f ,7 to 13. In the afternoon the regular teams o f the two towns crossed bats in the hottest game o f the season, so far, and up to the ninth inning it was no body’ s gan.s. Both teams played ball from the word go and at the end o f the eighth the score stood 5 to 5. Then Central Point get busy, rolled up tw o big, elegant tallies and shut out the onion growers, taking the game by two scores. Huggins and “ Dutch” Pankey both made some star plays and all the boys acquitted themselves with credit and covered themselves with glory. Clarke, an old newspaper man o f Ore gon, for whom Binger Hermann created the office o f librarian o f the General Land Office ten years ago, has resigned, it having been descided to abolish the offiice. When Clarke first came to Wash ington he ran Hermann’ s press bureau, but before Hermann resigned from the Land Office, he had a qnarrel with Clarke and sought to remove him. Secretary Hitchcock, not because he loved Clarke more, but Harmann Jess, blocked Hermann’ s game and pro tected Clarke, through Clarke's office was unnecessary. Commissioner Bal linger is reducing the Land Office to a business basis and Clarke is one o f the first superfluities to be let out. Whooptog Gauflb.
