CENTRAL POINT HERALD. THURSDAY, AUGLST 23: 1'JOO. fatal Accident Looking For A distressing accident occurred Sun- itay night near Jacksonville by which George J. McCune, formerly a resident of Medford, lost his life. Several men employed at the Iowa Lumber & Box Co.’s mill were in town and hired a livery team, driven by Oscar Lewis, to take them back to the mill ar.d Mr. McCune accompanied them. On the return trip, about 9 o ’clock, the con veyance, which was a heavy hack, struck a chuck hole and McCune was thrown out in front of the hack and both wheels passed over his body, in flicting internal injuries. He was brought to town and given medical at tendance, but after suffering intensely for a short time he succumbed to his injuries. He was twenty-three years of age and a member of thn Artisans and the Redmen, The funeral will be held in Jacksonville tomorrow under the auspices of the first named order. -Tribune. CENTRAL I Don’t Read This A party of expert fishermen are “ playing hob” with the big feliows out in Rogue river this morning as we go to press. The party consists of the following: W. F. Isaacs, ( “ Toggery Bill” ), Milton Armstrong and F. H. Hull, of Mediord; John Goodrich, of Portland, and H. G. Brown and S. A. Pattison, of Central Point As we understand it, the plan of attack will be something like this: Goodrich will telephone the Steelheads that a party of good fellows are prepared to “ make it pleasant for them” at the old fish camp. “ Toggery Bill” will act as a reception committee and get ’ em on the hook Armstrong will pull them out with his strong arm, Hull will take their photographs, Brown will see that they are nicely “ browned” in the fry ing-pan and the whole party will have fish for breakfast at 10 o ’clock. A considerable amount of lumber in th« yard also went up in smoke. 1 he total loss is reported as being more than 12500. The fire probably origin ated from a pile of sawdust which was being burned near the mill.
