Motor Head Light Law BRIEF LOCAL NEWS / .September 1, 1926, chapter 323 ef the lawa of 1925, regulating the adjustment of motor vehicle lights in Oregon, goes into effect, and in- aamuch aa the law assumes that all motor vehicles within the state will have been provided with approved lighting equipment, properly adjust ed according to legal standard, en forcement of the provisions of the law will begin upon that date by the traffic division of the department of secretary of state. No lighting station can legally ad just lights until it has on display, in a conspicuous place, a certificate of authorization issued by the secretary of state and no mechanic can legally adjust lights until he has been exam ined and licensed so to do, and his certificate of authorization must also be made available upon demand. The old magneto type of headlight will not meet the requirementa of the law and all cars operating under this type of illumination must be Ye- cquipped with electric or acetylene systems before they can operate on the public highways on and after September 1st. The change can be made at nominal cost. Adjustment receipts cannot be is sued by the adjuster for any device *hich has not been tested by the United States bureau of standards and approved by secretary of state. To date 17 different head lamps, reflectors and control devices have passed the test and been approved. Thia list is furnished each authorized >ight adjusting station and must be posted conspicuously upon a bulletin board provided for that purpose. As tests are completed additions will be made to the authorized lists. A maximum charge of 75 cents is allowed by law for light adjusting aervice, exclusive of equipment to conform to legal requirements. Road Signs to Become Standard in the U I Here is something for the touring motorist: Watch for the yellow signs which soon will make their appearance on all national highways and interstate roads under an agreement announced by the department of public roads. Yellow means “caution.” It may tell the autoist to “stop” to “slow,” or that there is a school- house, a dan gerous curve, |ooae gravel, a rail way crossing or hills ahead. Anyway one looks at it it will mean “be care ful.” Standard s-gn« to mark all high way* have been decided upon as follows: Railroad crossings, a circular sign. 24 inches in diameter, yellow back ground with the familiar railroad cross in black, with the letters ”R R.” in black in the upper quadrants. Stop sign, an octagon, with the word “stop” in black letters upon a yellow background. are Caution sign, diamond shaped, with yellow background upon which are superimposed the warning words whatever they are to be. A square yellow sign will call at tention tn the need for a lesser de gree of caution. Luminous signs will be red for dan ger or stop, yellow for caution and green for “go.” The standard route marker will b< a United States shield painted-on white, on which will appear, in black, the name of the state, the initial* “U. S.” and the number of the route. OU heard the latest exploit, didn’t youT Left the water • Judge J. T. Whalley drove to Moro running in the bath tub and ruined the living room wall.
