The Sherman county band which
wss organized at Moro, March 13th,
met for its first practice in the School
house at Moro, March 17th, at 7:30.
The band la composed mostly of ex
perienced players who tend to give
the organization an air of stability
and an assurance of success. Several
young men are in the band and if we
are to judge from preparations others
are making, we might well expect a
completion of the organization at the
next practice which is to be at the
school house in Moro, next Sunday at
2 p. m. An invitation is extended
to all who are interested.

The highway camp at the mouth of
the Deschutes river, engaged in the
resurfacing of the Columbia highway
between Cell Io and the Deschutes,
will move to the mouth of the John
Day river within a few days. When
again in operation they will continue
the work of resuifacing the highway
between the Deschutes and John Day
rivers.
A dance was held at Rufus hotel
last Saturday evening, with many
people attending from the northern
part of Sherman county, During each
of the dance numbers both of the
large rooms comprising the office and
the dining rooms of the hotel were
crowded. Refreshment« were served
at 12 .*90 followed with dancing until
about 2:30.
