It ia thought that some water glanced from the steel frame to the flying band or that ha accidentally touched the hoae to the bait. Those nearby who saw it wobble knew that trouble was imminent and tried to r-top the engine. Thompson had taken a few steps toward the belt, in an e f fort to si.eady it, when it flew from the f.blley on the compressor and hit him with an enormous force. The in jured man fell several yards away under (he main drive belt. As soon as he was able to he moved he was taken to the Hotel Moro and Dr.Poiey called. Though no serious complica tions were • expected, he was taken to Wasco Monday mornipg for an X-ray examination. By way of companaation the county w ill pay him hia regular salary while he Is disabled and w ill shoulder all medical and hospital bills. Wasco Celebration Notes Judge R. R. Butler of The Dali a will be the orator of the day at Wasco July 4th. W. 8. Powell and family returned Saturday afternoon from a motor trip to as far south aa Long Beach, Cali fornia, taking three days lasa than four weeks to make the 280ft miles traveled. The party used their trail er, camping as fancy dictated, going over the Columbia and Pacific high ways and returning via Weed over the Interior Oregon highway. They visit ed Catalina bland and took an oas trip in the glass bottomed boats at that resort, 28 m iles off the Cali fornia coast. They also visited at Yosemite Park on the return. Mr. Powell reports that the road from 80 miles south of Bond to Madras, except about five m iles near Terrebonne, has been surfaced with lava rock, making an excellent roadbed. la a t New» Letter Every body have a good time the Fourth. • Quite a number spent Sunday in the canyon. Frank Brown and fam ily came in on Tuesdays train. Arnold Dellinger has been on the sick list the past week. Carl Schadewlls motored to The Dalles Saturday, returning Sunday. Miaa McClellan, a chum Of Mrs. Wren Hogue, arrived Saturday after noon. \ Art Mattorn and fam ily have re turned from a two weeks visit in the valley. James L. Matthes and fam ily are home after a weeks virit in The Dalles and at Clem. ’ At a meeting of the' creditors of the Kent Elevator Company held on Monday, R. L. Sabine of Portland was appointed trustee. Now comes the selling of the business, its notes, accounts, buildings, etc., to pay its obligations. Reports from the meet ings say that the merchandise, notes, accounts and buildings invoice about 872,000 and the obligations are about 860,000. Probably enough may be saved by the trustee to pey all claims but not much w ill be left for the stockholders.
