The local prize winners were Henry Barnum, first prise $5, e a lf raising division I I ; Harold Royae, second prise $2, me chanical contest division I ; Harold Bryant, second prise $2, mechanical contest division I I ; Henry Barnum, first prise $8, mechanical contest d iv i sion I I I . In tha special contest Gram V alle y took the $10 prise fo r town schools in the booth contest and E r skine toopk tbs $10 prise for rural schools. Wasco took the $7.60 prize fo r the th r ift contest for town schools and Rufus took the prize fo r ru ra l schools. The first assembly of the year was held in the Auditorium Tuesday morn ing, October 10th. M r. Fagan gave the reporta o f the Sherman County Childrens' F a ir and gave out the prizes awarded to Moro children. A boys' athletic masting was c a ll ed on Tesday afternoon, October 18th. I t waa decided not to play football thia year, but to substitute volley b a ll. Chaster Anderson was sleeted manager of the team and W illa rd U r quhart captain. Sides wars selected to carry out the Phyaical. Education Course, W illa rd Urquhart and Cheater Andersen were appointed captains by M r. Fagan. The Junior« held a class meeting Tuesday morning and accepted an in vitation to the Sophomore's Friday evening party. They are enjoying a secret as to the stunt they are going to p u ll. The Sophomore d a ta have invited the H ig h School and Faculty to a par ty given in the Auditorium Friday, the 22d. Each class ia to give a stunt to cover ten minutes each. Will Visit Eastern Cities Because they Receive Price and Quality Dr. and Mrs. J. R. Morgan expect to leave Saturday for a vacation of several weeks to be spent in visiting eastern points of interest. Going, they w ill v is it Denver. Kansas C ity, A tlanta, and Jacksonville, Florida. Stopping over at those places as w ell as others in Georgia and North Caro lina. The return w ill be made by way of Louisiana, Texas and C a lifo r nia, with atop overs at New Orleans, Texarkana and Cisco, Texas, and others in C alifornia. During the time they are away D r. Morgan has arranged for a six weeks post graduate course in Kansas C ity and A tlanta, prelim inary to again taking up active work in his dental office. During the absence of Dr. Mor gan the office w ill continue under tha direction of Dr. Jas. W ilk ie who needs no further introduction to the Sherman county public than to remind the pat rons that he has been with D r. About 20 members of the.Moro Lodge were present and altogether there were about 200 Odd Fellows in attendance. Thia ia said to be very good, considering the.location of the convention choice and the distance from many of the ledges. The lodge members are high in th eir praise of the reception they re ceived from Antelope members and from the town aa a whola. The con vention next year w ill be held a t Moro and not a dissenting vote waa cast against the choice o f this c ity . The convention also changed the date of the annual meeting from the 3d Mon day in October to the 1st Monday. A t the annual election o f officers Moro was honored by g etting two of the chief places. Officers for the en suing year are: A . M. Young, Moro Lodge, president; A . R . Keaainger, Moro Lodge, secretary; O. D. Doane, The Dalles Lodge, treasurer. The second degree was bestowed upon five new candidates by the D ufur team. The Moro team le ft here about 6 p. m. «nd arrived in Antelope at 6 :16. The roads were in fine condition. On the return i t waa stormy and about two inches of snow was encountered near Shaniko that made travelin g slow u n til Kent waa le ft behind. As they got nearer home i t changed to rain and the roads became very slippery and muddy in places. t Only one small accident was report ed and this was more of a comedy w ith a Dufur car as the ch ief star. Thia car was on its way to Antelope; it was too dark for the d river to see very w e ll; when he came to a small bridge, he missed I t ; the car f e ll into a ditch and turned over upon a barbed wire fence; one man got hia arm scratched; another occupant received a few minor scratches on hia face; the third had to buy a new pair of pants. The car waa righted and. a fte r an ex amination it waa found to be undam aged and it proceeded on its way. Kent, Grass V alley, Moro and Wasco schools had splendidly arranged booths. Grass V a lle y booth was awarded first place on the basis of the beat exh ib it of school room work, a rtistic arrange ment and variety o f exhibit. On the same basis Erskine school was award ed first place in tha rural school class. Rufus eshool deserves special men tion because of its excellent garden exh ib it. The first four places in the garden club work were won by c h il dren from this school. The German school showed the highest q uality in sewing work, winning first, second and third place. Locust Grove, Bigga, Moody, DeMoas, Harmony, Michigan, Buckley, Em m igrant, and F airview were other rural schools exhibiting. Wasco and Rufus were the schools w h i ning the T h r ift prizes offered for both the rural and the town schools. The greater part of the children in the county were at the fa ir grounds on Thursday, this being Children's Day. During the morning an Indus tr ia l Club meeting was held in tha grand stand. J. E. Cal even, from the state superintendent’s office, and Mias Helen C ow gill, assistant state club leader, talked to the children present. The County Achievement arm bands were presented to the boys and g irls who had completed their club work. Glenns D ellinger and Bernice Neal told of th eir trip to the State F a ir, stating that the boys and g irls of this county must put more q uality into their work to compete succe sfu lly at Salem. Im m ediately after the luncheon hour three demonstrations were given in the peviIlion by club members. Bernice Neal and Edith D i I linger, from F airview school, canned four pints of pears. Golds H artley and M artha Wilson, from Kent school, showed how they set a table, and the g irls of the Gorman school Sewing Club, demonstrated stitches they had learned. The fa ir has resulted in various^ plans being made for the coming year.
