W right, by ap pointment met S tate Highway Com m issioner Kiddle at the Cottonwood bridge crossing over the John Day river Saturday morning. Mr. K iddle was accompanied by sta te highway engineers Bennett and K elly . The party made a thorough inspection of the proposed highw ays in Sherman county, end, although the state offi cia ls would not make any definite statem ents, it g iv es a ll parties con cerned s better understanding o f the road and highw ay situation in Sher man county. A m eeting was held a t the court bouse Saturday morning to discuss the proposed two mHl educational tax to be voted on a t the May primary electio n . We have not reed the pro posed lew , but understand that it re peals the present sta te and county per capita tax and substitutes a direct 2-m ill tax on a ll property in the state. The fund treated ia divided among the schools ia each county on a I basis o f «704 for each «0 pupils er asejor fraction per teacher. A school d istrict does not lose th « right to levy | a special tax if it oo votes, but a ll district» w ill pay not less then a 2-m ill tax to the sta le, which in turn w ill be returned to tha county and divided as indicated above. i t ✓
