The death at the age of 73 years
of Miss Josephine Wolf, a wealthy
woman long a resident of Walla
Walla, is announced. A resident
of that city for full half a century,
without special human attachments
or iifterests, and with no kuowu
relatives, this woman lived her
lone day aud passed on into the
shadow. The first impulse is to
pity her for the joys of life that she
has missed, the companionships of
kindred aud the loves of home; but,
as suggested by. The Oiegoniao,
since she never knew these she
could uot miss them iu the sense of
those who are bereft. And as, ac
cording to report, she provided iu
her will a home for dumb animals
otherwise homeless, she uncovered
in her nature a w tmau’s tenderness

According to reports received by
Dr.Yennev, secretary of the Oregon
state board of health, there threat

state. Dr. McCluie, chief of the
state bureau of animal industry,

taken to Forest Grove, was found
