The deal spoken of in The Observer last week, whereby our fellow citizen, and pioneer in the business of Sherman county, Banker W. M. Barnett, was disposing of all his Wasco city holdings, including his banking business, flour ing mills, grain warehouses, merchandise, stock and store buildings, together with other holdings, in the aggregate making a sum of nearly $130,000 in round numbers, was closed Saturday. We regret this transaction if it is to take Mr. Barnett and his family from the county. His success ors, however, Messrs. Hamilton a Scroggins, of LaGrande, are said to be pf a superior order of business men, and will not only edntinue the enterprises from which Mr. Barnett releases himself, but will introduce a hirst National Bank into Sherman county. We cordially greet them. By expending #60,000,000 on the engineering works now in procees of construction, the reclamation service will reclaim a cultivated area equal to the total acreage in crop* io the four states of Florida, Connecticut, Massachusetts, aud New Hampshire.
