If our Alabamans do not begin rehearsals inside of a week and re turn to Wasco with another play,it will not be because their inclina tions are not thitherward. Enthusi astic is no name for the description of their treatment at the hands of the Wasco people who received them with open arms, took them intothgir homesand entertained them royally. In fact our thespians say it seemed they could not do enough for them. The opera house was crowded for the play, and their efforts seemed td have been greatly appreciated. F i nancially the trip was also a suc cess, and even the four hours wait at Biggs did n’t lessen the enthusi asm of those actors not yet suffi ciently initiated in the business to have left Biggs behind and walked home. THK mAtiAlINBR. The feeling which Henrietta Cros- nian has for the character of Shaks- peres Rosalind, is no doubt the se cret of her success in that part. It is the buoyancy of the role that re freshes rather than fatigues its per- sonator, and the note of sadness which this actress allows to creep into her voice in certain passages but emphasizes this happy quality, and makes the wit and banter of other lines stand out more promi nently by contrast." As Miss Cros- man writes, in the February Delin eator; “ When I produced ‘As You Like It,’ we would exclaim aftux the first act. with genuine regret, Only three acts more,’ and then Only two acts more,’ ‘Only one act more.’ I believe that if the audi ence had remained seated after the performance, we would gladly have begun all over again. As the season drew to a close our regret grew more poignant. Then it was ‘Only two weeks; only one week,’ and finally: Only one night more,’ and it was a sad leave-taking, ’though for my part, it was only au revoir, since I never shall give up Rosalind, but always will kc< p her in my reper toire."
