Cain will sing "Noble Flag" w ritten by the De- Mosses, a young people’s q uar tet from Wasco will sing some num bers, Jacque Bucholtz will sing a solo and there will be com m unity singing of such old num bers as "Quilting P a rty ” “You Take the High Road”, along with "Tipperary’” and other songs of the vintage of World W ar I. F or the business m eeting there will lie officers’ reports, nomma tion of officers, and other busi ness. John I. Sell of Salem will Je liver the address. May Wasn’t Much Ol a Month From Weather Standpoint May w eather differed from April w eather by being dri ?r than usual instead of wetter. f»> tai precipitation was til inch which is .20 under the normal. Most of that came c*urly in the month, with .31 inch on the t»«n For the crop year the total is now 11.73 und the normal is 19.- 59 inches. May w asn’t so hot as Mays gi , the highest tem perature being Si w hereas it usually gets up to 87 and the lowest was 30 which is just exactly what we can exjn**t for May. T hat was on the flrtt, quite a bit before the normal freezing date of May 9. The monthly mean was 53.S and the normal is 56.6 degrees, a n o tlu r indication that May w asn’t very hot. Soil tem|x?rature at 4 inches down ranges from 70 <o oo de grees and at 12 inches down is 00. 'Phis is a new test that should lx? a good comixiriison in future years. The wind averaged 4.3 mob. 1.2 I k - low normal. June Estimate On Wheat Crop Is Favorable If you want to know wliat the ItMLi wiiecrt and barley crop in Sherman county will tx? like, there is not much net*d of asking farmers. They do not agree. A man wlio farm s north of Gordon ridge and lias a field full of clu*at and a touch of ru st will not lx* optim istic about the pros- ¡x*cts; a man from south of Nig ger ridge w here the w heat is tail and with little cheat may lx* pret ty sure of a gixxl cn>p. Any long time observer will realise that lM«th may lx* right -o r wrong. The stands this year a re good, the early rains caused a big grow th with lots of "feathers” which makes the fields look fine, rid'., dark green and high enough to wave lx*autifully in the win I. AU that may lx* a handicap if and when hot winds come in June o r July. But all this is the usual per plexities a forecaster m ust face in this country w here the wea th er is unpredictable and the «'motions like - wise. However, there will lx* w heat and for many it will lx* satisfac tory; that we ¡iropiiesy w ith con fidence. We w ere down on th e Des chutes last week end for a dav and a night.
