Mrs lva Morgan and her dau ghter, Miss Zora Morgan, who have been at the Lloyd Johnson home for several months, left Friday for Portland to live in Miss Morgan’s home there during the spring months. Miss Morgan is caring for her mother who is unable to walk. The Masonic lodge had a party for the school teachers last Thur sday night and gave awards to those of them who had taught ten years in either high or grade school. Dean Pinkerton presen ted them and Gene Knott, teach er of Kent, made the speech for the occasion. A big crow’d was on hand for the affair. A representative of the state tax commission will lie in Moro or March 29, a Friday, from 8:30 to noon to help taxpayers with their returns. The American Legion auxiliary of Chris Schultz post met Mon day night in the Legoin hall and made plans for a pot luck dinner Sunday, March 17 to celebrate the birthday anniversary of the Amer ican Legion. Legionnaires and auxiliaires and families are in vited to attend. Members of the Grass Valley- Kent auxiliary met Tuesday at the home of their president Mrs. Alfred Kock in Moro. Mrs Naomi VanGilder announ ces that the Bloodmoblle will be in Moro for the regular spring trip on Thursday, March 28 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Legion hall. The quota for the county is 75 pints. Mr and Mrs Theodore Johnston are home from the south after several months spent hunting locks and sunshine in California, Arizona and Mexico. Mrs Diana Stewart left Wed nesday for her home in Boise after staying here with her moth er, Mrs Kerrone Christianson a few days after her father’s burial. Mrs Bessie Johnson remained here to 'be with her sister, Mrs Daisy Byers although die other one of the Hennagin girls, Mrs Eva Rudolph has gone to her home at Ariel, Washington. to WARNING A i l im h ; OWNERS Sandy Zachary To Be Married In April Mr anti Mrs Kenneth Zachary announce the engagement of their «laughter. Samira Kay Zachary, to Mr. Glen Andrew Hum, son of Mrs Carroll Hum of Arlington Washington and the late Mr. Hum. Miss Zachary was a student at Oregon College of Education at Monmouth for a year tiefore en rolling at Phagans School of Beauty in Salem. She is now the operator of the Moro Beauty shop. Mr Hurn was a student at Everett Junior college In Wash ington when he enlisted in the United States Marines. Most of his service obligation was spent overseas. He is now employed by General Construction on the John Day dam. Rufus News By Mr». George Fox Your Rufus correspondent feels she has one for Ripley. Mr and Mrs Tracy Fields were astonish ed Monday morning to see a two thousand gallon septic tank prop ped against a tree in their back yard which came in with the wind Sunday. It is presumably from a spot where additional trailer spots are being built south and west of their home. Mrs Fields said the owner of the sep tic tank hadn’t claimed it up to Monday afternoon. Mrs Fields en tertained the Wasco Womens' Study club Monday afternoon at a silver tea to raise money for a scholarship. The sight ami story of the septic tank created quite a stir among the members. Mrs Frank Reid and Mrs Har- land McDonald were hostesses at Mrs Fields home when the study club met and Mrs Hildren Zell gave a talk on a foreign country. Leonard Jordon was host at a birthday dinner Thursday even ing at hte John Day cafe to honor ot his wife, Ardie and Mrs Geo- Fox whose birthdays are just a day apart in March. Also invited was George Fox. There was a conference of Was co and Sherman county grangers Saturday at the grange hall and Mrs Buetler of Qswego, district Home Ec president was present to greet the women. A pot luck dinner at noon was enjoyed pro ceeding the meeting. Mr Buetler found there were seven members present from Chenoweth grange, one from Cherry Park, four from Harlandview', one from Mosier be sides those from Rufus. Mrs Ag nes Benson, Pomona Home Ec chairman for Sherman county ac ted as secretary. Mrs Edna Ren- kin read the minutes of last years meeting which was held at the Cherry Park grange. Mrs Buet ler passed out last years report cards and the reports of last year. She went over the questions on the quarterly report blanks of the state grange. Mrs Holland Johnson, master of the grange presided at the meeting March 7 and Martin Zim merman told of the annual wethl meeting Millard lelgh said for all to turn their old glases and cases as they could he sent to a place where they would do some good. For the lecturer’s program w hich was in honor of St. Patrick all were asked to make a word with "Pat” In it ami tell an Irish story. Mrs M. Zimmerman read "Driver’s License" and Miss Mary Brackett read "You Tell on Your self” . Mrs Johnson reminded all to remember the conference at Cherry Park on March 24. Mrs Harland McDonald said the HEC has taken on a project to sell a number of bottles of vanilla so if anyone needs some she has it.
