Jam es B Adams left a note when here Saturday on one of his now infrequent visits, saying that Charles O. Martin, once head of the E astern Oregon Land com pany had died in San Francisco after a heart ailm ent that started in London a few weeks before. He was a grandson of Edw ard Mart«n, wholesale liquor dealer, who bought The Dalles Military Road company grant in 1877. Mrs. Lillie Rayon was in G rants Pass last week to attend the Wo m en's Bowling congress of Oregon w here she won third in Class A singles w ith a score of 007 and at last word was ahead in the state in the overall class. A bridal show er honoring Miss Joyce E dw ards was held Decem ber 1, at the Moro church social room at 2:00 p. m. Miss Jacque Bucholtz sang two num bers be fore leaving for Yakima. Miss Ed w ards was presented a white car nation corsage and escorted to a white linen covered table laden w ith gifts. Miss Jane Helgeon and Miss Carolyn H enrichs as sisted her in opening and display ing the gifts. A t the close the hostesses: Edna Pauison, l>eona Helgeson, Inez Thompson, Eileen Moreau, Helen Leif, Florence Thompson and M irgarette Chris tianson served cake, coffee, punch, nut and m ints to those attending. Research and extension person nel are in Corvallis this week for the annual conference. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hall left the boys to batch for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Ginn have moved from Hood River to The Dalles and are now at G72 Mill Creek Road. The Sherman High school band will present a musical program, featuring C hristm as music, on Sat urday, December 8th, at 8:00 p. nt. in the high school cafetorium . Mr. and Mrs. A. Douma were up from Portland W ednesday to pick up th eir magazines and look around a little before retu rn in g to th eir home. Life insurance man John J. Howe, of 2‘>0 E ast 12th Street, The Dalles, has qualified for Mutual of New York's National Field Club an annual sales-honor ograniza- tion. Membership in the club is based on sa’es and service to poli cyholders. The American Legion Auxiliary of G rass Valley is having a C hrist m as party December 17 at 7:30 p. m. at the Legion hall in Grass Valley for m embers of the Legion and Auxiliary and their families. Mrs. Collis Moore went to P ort land W ednesday to take a plane T hursday m orning for W ashing ton, D. C. where she is attending th e meeting of the Republican National committee, as committee- woman from Oregon. Scott Lamb, editor of Oregon A griculture, the magazine of the Oregon Farm Bureau, stopped in Moro this week for a short visit. The highlights of the evening were pictures shown by Allen Tom and narrated by Mrs. Tom on th eir trip to India last year when Allen was president of the Oregon W heat league. A num ber of the pictures were colored showing the beautiful colors of the native dress, buildings and countryside. Mrs Tom is an articulate speaker and gave very interesting descrip tions of th e ir experiences and of places visited Mrs. Tom said the lights of the city of Tokyo were by far the most gorgeous of all the sights for color.
