Mrs. Eaton was a German bride of Neal who was in Germany during the time he served Uncle Sam. Lightning set a fire Saturday night northeast of Kenneth Frid ley’s house. A group of the neigh- bore were out until 3 a. m. Sun day morning to get the fire under control. However, at 11 a. m. it fMiUrtOfncnDWKT was reported the fire broke out again on the north end of the fire along the John Day river and burned a number of acres before it was brought under control. Again the neighbors all came to help put the fire out which burn ed about five hundred acres of grass land on the James Fox pas ture. The fire burned from Emi grant canyon along the John Day river up to Draper canyon. Usually the rain puts out a fir* started by lightning, but in this case it didn’t. George Fox killed a rattlesnake on the way back from the fire Sunday in Emigrant canyon. The snake has fifteen rattles and is about as large as they get in this area.
