Ronnie May was here from Portland to go hunting for a deer. Deer hunters, Joe and Doolie K irstine of Portland, w ere here as visitors w ith Mr. and Mrs. Lee Belshee for the first hunting day. She isl^ee’s sister. A party of old tim ers met at the home of Mrs. Jack H enkle last Thursday for lunch. T here was Mrs. Grace Dennis, now 69, of lx>ng Beach, Calif., a grand daugh ter of Abel Erskine, her daughter Mrs. Ed Mareks of Portland, Mrs. Earl W eida of Portland, Mrs. I^eo- nard ¡Sonnemon of Chehalis, Wn. Mrs. Maggie Barnum, Mrs. Anna Moore and »Mrs. Marion Powell were local guests. Mrs. Powell drove the group to historic points of interest to them in the coun ty previous to the luncheon. J. R. Byars is the new Union Oil consignee at Wasco having bought out Ira Eridley durin g the summer. The Byars fam ily came from Goldendale and have bought the John Eoss house in Wasco. Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Bull were here Saturday and Sunday to visit his father, Mac Bull. Eugene Vintin stopped to visit Mr. and Mrs. Loy Cochran Satur day evening while he was visiting relatives in Sherm an county. Charles Burnet is in a hospital in The Dalles w ith a fractured skull caused when he was inspect ing a tire on his car. The jack slipped and he was hit on the head. At the hospital he was found in serious condition but has been im proving the last day or so ac cording to reports. Jack Noonan returned home Sunday after spending several days w ith his son, Carroll, at St. Helens, w here Carroll is w orking in the hag departm ent of the pa p e r mill. Rufus Personal!» Mrs. George Fox Friends at R ufus have received an announcem ent of the m arriage of Wally Joe Morris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Morris of Rufus on Monday, Septem ber 22 at Billings, Montana. His bride, Mary Ann, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Logan. A few of the hunters had luck getting their buck this season al ready, but on the whole the bucks aren't too plentiful here this year. It is thought on account of the dry season they have gone fa rth er up to the mountains. It had all the appearances of rain here Monday afternoon, anti the clouds were hanging heavy in the sky Tuesday, but no rain. There is quite a wind blowing, and it is getting colder. The w heat farm ers still hope for a rain so they can get the seeding done. The Rufus I*TA met Monday evening at the Rufus school to meet the new teachers, anti change the organization to a social group of the Parent Teachers. I>ast y e a r’s president, Mrs. Sam my Tsubota, was in charge of the meeting, and the forming of the new group was discussed. It was decided to have two hostesses each month to plan some e n te r tainm ent for the get-together for visiting anti fun. The hostesses would provide the refreshm ents. 403 K. 2nd St. Tel.
