There w ill be no grange m eeting tiie firs t Thursday in September. The Sherman co m ity 1 amona grange meets at R ufus the th ird Saturday in September. The club discussed w hat they w ould have. The clu b voted to buy a dozen stainless steel table spoons fo r the grange kitchen. Mrs. S w ig a rt and Mrs. A<iee W ilson are to see about geting them. Also Mrs. H ol land Johnson and Mrs. Sam B rin k are to see alxm t g e ttin g a num ber o f lunch sets fo r use at the Rufus grange h a ll fo r d iffe r ent socials held there. The c h a ir man discussed the w q rk and eats fo r the county fa ir com ing up in September. She hopes fo r a lot of volunteers to help w ith the w o rk. The club plans a p icnic w ith the husbands and fam ilies in vite d to go to The Dalles p a rk on A ugust 25 at 1:00 p. m. A fte rw a rd s the group plans on seeing The Dalles museum. Now the Shasta cam has b u ilt a big lake that ru n s up the canyons and makes w ater sports available fo r n o rth e rn C a lifo rn i ans who apparently grasp a w ater ski rope as adeptly as th e ir grand fathers held a lariat. T T W N C a lifo rn ia , aided and abetted by the federal governm ent, is doing a good (ideal to remedy bad road conditions th a t fo rm e rly existed between that canyon tow n of Dunsmuir and Redding. The road runs th rough the Siskiyous and nothing b u t an airplane can make it smooth and s tra ig h t, but the sharp curves are livin g stretched out u n til one long one does fo r fo u r o r five of the fo rm e r sh o rt ones and the road has been widened over much o f the course and it isn ’t as bad as it used to be. N either is it a n yth in g to con tem plate w ith pleasure. But if one must tra ve l one must expect his moments of close concentration to the yellow line, the o n .o m in g tra ffic , th e b u rn in g sun the s tic k y seat, ju s t as i f one m ust live he must expect days of pay ing a ttention to business. and Miss D orothy W elk.
