0 © HAGE 3 SHERMAN COUNTY JOURNAL, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Beckett stopped in Moro Tuesday while on their way home from Portland where they had spent a part of their vacation from managing the First National branch at La Grande. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wallace returned this week from a trip that took them northeast to Sand point, Idaho and down the east side of the great divide to visit relatives working on the Noxon dam in Montana and borne by way of Boise, Burys and Bend. Mrs. May Mitchell wa3 buried in the Kent cemetery last week, following her death in Portland . . . Mr. and Mrs. John Parker left for a two week vacation trip in Canada with relatives. Mrs. Geo. Benson is peddling hardware in their abee nee. Mrs. Florence Carpenter and three children were here visiting her mother, Mrs. Earl Gentry, for a few days last week. Mrs. Etta Moore is in a hospital In The Dalles for rest and treat ment. John DeMoss, having hurt his back working on the ranch, went to the Warm Springs for some hot baths, which he says, is help ing him. The Wfcrds had been vis iting his mother Mrs. N. W. Ward at Battleground, Wn., and brought her up with them to spend some time with the Rotherys. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Moss took their niece, Julie Ann Roe, up to La Grande to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewayne Roe. She had stay ed with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rothery for two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rothery re cently had a fire which burned through a mattress and bedding. It was caused by an overheated bedlamp. Mrs. W. E. Moss took her son, Juckie, to Doernbecher for an eye checkup last week. '1 he apricot harvest ui Rufus is being brought to a standstill at this writing. There was a good supply and the quality of the fruit was good this year. The John Day Cafe is having an extra utility room added on to the cooler which was built on the east side of the building. Mr. and Mrs. John Stehlik and Donna, Darlene and Janet, are spending a weeks vacation along the Oregon beaches. Stehlik works for the state highway department in Rufus. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Back are adding new refrigeration units and new shelving to their grocery store at the Union Service Station in Rufus.
