Mr. and Mrs. Donald von Bor- stel and family drove to The Dal- les Sunday where they attended services at St. Paul’s Episcopal church. Mrs. Joe Hammond and Miss Barbara Alley were In The Dales Monday on business. Mr. and Mrs. Estel Hartley went to Portland Sunday for a family get together at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Gene Hartley. ■W W Mrs. Frank Ketter took her mo ther, Mrs. Pearl Garrett to a hos pital In The Dalles Saturday for medical attention. Mrs. Ketter went down Monday to visit her at the hospital. Mrs. A. E. Laffoon of Kent un- derwent a major operation at the Portland General hospital the fir- st of August The reports are that she is recuperating satisfactorily. Mrs. Ted Trimble went to The Dalles Saturday and brought Mrs. John Engstrom home from the hospital where she spent a week for medical attention. Phil von Borstel SR with the Funeral services for Sam Stark were held from the Grass Valley Baptist church at 3 p. m. Saturday with the Rev. Donald Leach offl- elating. W . and Mrs. Orville Rug- gles sang with Mrs. Elton Eakin the accompanist. Pall bearers were his sons, Wallace, Hadley, Olan, Harry and Curtis Stark and a grandson, irwin Parkhurst. Honorary pali bearers were Herman Ziegler, J. W. Blagg, E. R. Blaylock, E. B. Lemon, Alex Marshal and I K. Smith. Funeral arrangements were un der the direction of Spencer & Libby with interment in the IOOF cemetery at Grass Valley. Norton at tended the state convention of Mo., arrived Sunday to spend a Stark. the American Legion and auxili ary held at Albany. A picnic was held at the Carl von Borstel home Sunday. Those present were Vernon Norris, who is working at the Frank von Bor stel ranch and Jack Jensen, who is working at the Ted vnn Borstel ranch and Mr. Jensen’s parents, and his fiancee, Miss Vivian Nor ris who came from Springfield for the day. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Reynolds had as dinner guests Sunday to celebrate the third birthday of their daughter, Shelley, her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Rey nolds. Mr. and Mrs. A. F.
