Ed Coles, extension livestock marketing specialist at OSC., reports that on January 1, 1954, Oregon had a total of 1,429,000 cattle, the U. S. had 94,600,000 and the world about 856,000,000 cattle. As nations go, India ranks first in total cattle numbers with nearly 200,000,000 head. Cattle in India are used primarily, for draft purposes. The U. S. is con sidered first in beef production in the world. Coles says the marked upswing in cattle production in the world since World War II Is showing 000,000 head.
